We are looking for enthusiastic people who are keen to take the next step and become qualified maintainers. About the Opportunity Maintenance Traineeships are a 12-month training program based at the academy in Forrestfield.
Trainees study to become skilled Maintenance Associates with BHP, completing a Certificate II in Engineering – Production Technology.
Our Traineeships will provide you with exciting opportunities including:
Learning about the equipment that we use to mine commodities.
Some equipment you will learn about are; Bulldozers, Graders, Loaders, Excavators, and Dump Trucks. Performing a variety of tasks such as inspections, servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on large mining equipment and components. Participating in a mixture of classroom and theory learning, as well as practical workshop training.
You will learn to interpret mechanical drawings, the basics of hydraulics, and about the variety of tools we use to maintain these machines. Paid training which is undertaken at our training academy in Perth.
While training you will be working a roster of 7 Days / 7 Off / 7 Nights / 7 Off, day shift hours are 6am to 4:30pm and night shift hours are 1:30pm to 12:00am. The Perth academy is currently offering Heavy Diesel Traineeship roles to commence in April & May 2025.

About you We are seeking applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds.
As this program contains fast-tracked learning, you will need to commit to attendance, be adaptable to your working roster, and live local to the FutureFit Academy.
To be eligible for this role, you will be required to:
Relocate to Perth if necessary.
Transport or accommodation is not provided by BHP for these positions.
You will also be required to live within a maximum of 1 hour's driving distance to the Academy. Be highly committed to safety. Have an interest in problem-solving and working on the tools. Be motivated to learn new skills and knowledge, whilst enjoying a mixture of classroom and hands-on learning. Have prior experience working on machinery as a job or personal hobby (highly regarded, but not mandatory). BHP has sites across Australia and it is important to understand that you may be required to relocate (including interstate) once you complete your training.
This is based on demand for your trade or skillset across our mine sites.
