Leading the safety and wellness function for a large and diverse regional council, this role is a key part of the people strategy for our client. Description The primary focus of this role is the operational implementation of the Town's Health, Safety & Wellness straetgy, along with the management of the WHS Management system and the leadership of a small, but engaged safety & wellness team. Alongside this, this role is a key advisor and leader across multiple business units ensuring a high quality of collaboration and communication on safety & wellness matters.
This role will also head up the safety compliance and audit functions, along with overseeing injury management and workers compensation claims with support and assistance from the wider Human Resources team.
Some of the key duties of this role include:
- Implementation, review and maintenance of WHS programs and systems
- Provision of coaching and leadership for line managers on safety and wellness matters
- Overseeing the activities of the safety and wellness team including the supervision of incident investigations and risk assessments
- Monitor and advise on the Town's compliance with WHS legislation
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and psychological safety
Profile The successful candidate will be an experienced and capable leader, who has a flair for getting the best out of stakeholders and the creativity to problem solve in an environment that rewards autonomy and innovative thinking. They will be someone who has successfully demonstrated the implementation and management of safety systems across a multifaceted organisation, particularly one with limited resources and organisational safety literacy.
Experience in other local governments is absolutely not essential, though exposure to working in or with public-sector organisations is highly regarded. They should be an excellent communicator, influencer and collaborator.
The successful candidate will also have recognised qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, ideally at a minimum of Advanced Diploma level, along with a current Australian Police Clearance, C Class Drivers Licence and a Senior First Aid certificate.
