Reporting to the Hedland Operations Health and Safety Superintendent at Fortescue, you will support the Shutdown team in the implementation and assurance of Health & Safety Management Systems, driving continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
As a Health and Safety Specialist supporting shutdowns, you will lead the development, implementation, and coaching of Safety Management Systems, driving continuous improvement across operations.
Your role will focus on assessing risks, evaluating controls, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and guiding senior leaders and line management in Health, Safety, Assurance, Risk, and Contractor excellence.
You will also foster strong relationships with the site team to maintain a collaborative safety culture throughout the shutdown process.
The Specialist must be available to work on-site during shutdowns, including night shifts.
While every effort will be made to adhere to a set roster, flexibility is essential for success in this role.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngage with Leaders to advise achieving the strategic plan's objectives for HSES performance.Support leaders and team members with coaching and mentoring to achieve confidence and competence in safety compliance, assurance activities, and managing risks.Provide assistance and guidance in the investigation of incidents.Be actively involved in the Fortescue Contractor Management audit process.Assist in preparing and presenting contractor forums, Health and Safety initiatives, and promotional material.Liaise with line management, consultants, and government bodies.Assist operations with Fortescue's Incident Management System (BMS).Actively participate in the implementation of the Fortescue Major Hazard Program.Regularly review and update health and safety protocols to reflect the latest best practices and regulatory changes.Qualifications and ExperienceTertiary qualifications in Occupational Health, Safety, Hygiene, or related post-graduate qualifications.Proven experience in a health and safety role, with a focus on shutdowns, turnarounds, or project-based work.ICAM Training (demonstrated experience in ICAM investigations preferred).Strong knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices in shutdown environments.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse teams.Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in time-sensitive environments.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.About UsBe part of something big.
