The OpportunityThe Health & Safety Culture Manager will lead the HSW Team in a continuous improvement safety culture program, whilst having overall responsibility for the Health & Safety governance and system frameworks. The Health & Safety Culture Manager will partner with the Garvan Leadership Team and key stakeholders to provide coaching and subject-matter expert advice to ensure Garvan achieves a high standard of workplace safety, injury management, risk management and is positioned to comply with all related legislative requirements. The Health & Safety Culture Manager will put people at the heart of health, safety & wellbeing.
This position is responsible for reporting HSW activity and performance to the Garvan Leadership Team (GLT) and Board of Directors.
Snapshot of BenefitsGenerous salary packaging to save you income tax on your wages thereby boosting your monthly take home pay (max. $15,900 general expenses + $2,650 meals/accom)Ample opportunities for on-going training and developmentStimulating, diverse and highly international research environmentFlexible work arrangements e.g. start / finish times18 weeks paid parental leave for both parents including paid superannuationA range of additional leave types to meet your personal needs including cultural leave, conference leave, community service and study leaveDiscounted Health InsuranceLifestyle discounts with our community partnersWhat You Will DoLeading, coaching and developing the HSW TeamPositively influence, and advise people leaders and staff on health and safety matters, requirements under WHS legislation, and drive forward the agenda for positive health and safety culture in the workplaceEnsuring strong Health, Safety & Wellbeing strategies, training and programs are in place to support health & safety, wellbeing and injury management application across Garvan and drive continuous improvementDeveloping, implementing and guiding the Health and Safety Management FrameworksDeveloping, implementing and guiding Injury Management FrameworksLead the wellbeing strategy (including psychosocial risk programs)Providing safety leadership, direction and guidance across GarvanEstablishing key relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure HSW requirements are developed, implemented and reviewed on a regular basisMaintain current, extensive knowledge of relevant legislative requirements and ensure internal understanding through communication and trainingSupport the facilitation of robust investigations into safety related incidents and eventsProvide regular reporting and insights to the GLT and Board of Directors to assist with adhering to due diligenceDevelopment and implementation of HSW programsAll staff are required to comply with Garvan's workplace policies (as amended from time to time) and especially Garvan's Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy, including working in accordance with the WHS management system at all times, as safety is Garvan's number one priority.About YouThe role requires a comprehensive knowledge and understanding in WHS Legislation (Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practice), Risk Management and Injury ManagementStrong communication and well-developed interpersonal skillsExperience in the development and implementation of Health and Safety Management SystemsExperience in management of worker's compensation claims and RTW CoordinatorKnowledge and technical skills in risk managementKnowledge and experience in a Medical Research Institute or innovative scientific research environment is desirableMinimum 5 years working as an experienced health and safety specialist with at least 2 years at a management or supervisor level.How to ApplyTo apply for this position, please submit your application with a CV and cover letter as one document, stating why you are interested in this role.
