QPS has embarked on an organisational transformation of its WHS functions.
Central to this is the significant uplift in the capacity and capability of the Safety Operations workforce. This team comprises safety and risk management specialists with advisors located in police regions, commands and divisions. Advisors are also based in regional hubs to support state emergency and marine rescue functions.
This role is fundamental to workplace engagement, workforce capability building and WHS compliance and advisory services for local QPS business units. While colocated within local business units, they are part of a centralised Safety Strategy Division which includes senior WHS practitioners and managers.

The core capability requirements for this role are:
Coordinate a broad range of health and safety activities, including consultative processes and networks, workplace inspections, organisational audits and continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and implement local strategies, systems and procedures in support of strategic QPS health and safety policies and initiatives. Coordinate the identification and assessment of workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and develop control strategies to address potential hazards to the health and safety of members. Facilitate and/or conduct incident and accident investigations and investigation management. Prepare submissions, reports, briefings and other relevant documentation relating to health and safety issues and initiatives. Provide advice and support to managers and workers on all aspects of health and safety, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Regulation 2011 and other relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Standards. Develop, coordinate and deliver health and safety training programs and information products to personnel. Coordinate the collection, recording and analysis of health and safety data to produce recommendations and reports to management. Role Requirements:
Mandatory:
A C Class driver's license (minimum) and intrastate travel is a requirement of this position.
Qualification:
While a qualification is not essential, possession of a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or similar relevant qualification and experience in maintaining a compliant safety management system would be highly regarded. Educational experience:
