The Department of Education (the Department) is seeking a Health Practitioner (General Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner) to provide a service 1 day per week, to students within the school-based clinic at Heatley State School as part of the Health Practitioners in Primary Schools Program (HPPS). October 2024 start, with contract negotiable to December 2027.

As part of the Queensland Government's Putting Queensland Kids First Plan, a free primary healthcare service will be delivered by a Health Practitioner at 20 state primary schools. Integrating Health Practitioners (General Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner) in state primary schools will assist with facilitating referrals to support services and other allied health services. Health Practitioners working in the HPPS Program will: provide a service to students within the school-based clinic one day per week during school terms have a strong interest in children and adolescent health be required to bulk-bill student appointments through Medicare as students and their families will not bear any consultation costs for students to access the service provide the majority of services that would be typically accessed at a community-based health care clinic, including: physical assessments prescribing medications health screening direct referral of students to other medical specialists and allied healthcare professionals mental health assessment and plans administering vaccinations ordering diagnostic tests interpreting test results

As the HPPS Program focuses on early intervention of development issues, Health Practitioners may provide reports and assessments to parents and/or the school (with the consent of parent/student) about student development. Parents/carers are expected to attend appointments with their child and be actively involved in discussions with the Health Practitioner about their child's healthcare. The Department will provide financial support to the successful Health Practitioner, including $1,250 per day

to assist with the operation of the school-based clinic. Please note, Health Practitioners provide services in the HPPS Program as external providers and are not employed by the Department. #J-18808-Ljbffr
