The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance was formed on July 1, 2003 as a partnership between Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital. The Listowel Memorial Hospital has been providing acute care and complex continuing care services to the residents of North Perth and the hospital's catchment area since 1919. Our fully accredited hospital offers a wide range of primary and secondary services including 24-hour emergency services, in-patient and out-patient care, specialist clinics, and supportive diagnostic services. The Hospital has an active staff of 10 Family Practitioners as well as several consultant staff.

Description: Reporting to the Vice President Human Resources, the Health and Safety Officer is responsible for a variety of health and safety programs. Specifically, the role provides compliance oversight and training plans for programs such as Respirator fit testing, WHIMIS, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Annual Vulnerable Sector Evacuation, and MORB training. As a leader of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, the Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for maintaining policies that are consistent with legislation and codes of practice. The Health and Safety Officer will provide education and training for staff, students, and volunteers.
Further, the Health and Safety Officer will work with the Coordinator of Occupational Health on particular employee programs and will participate in projects as requested to promote staff safety and minimize risk. The H&S Officer participates in IPAC / Occupational Health-related projects and serves as an essential resource of the construction/renovation multi-disciplinary team.
This is a temporary, full-time position that is anticipated to begin immediately and extend through October 31, 2025. The successful candidate will be available Monday through Friday, for 37.5 hours.
Responsibilities: Provide general orientation training and yearly education for staff with respect to health and safety, hazards and controls, and emergency response. Support managers with safety education at the departmental level at orientation and ongoing throughout employment.Maintain and revise as needed the Emergency Response Program, including maintaining current policies and developing an education plan for all staff including mocks, drills, and exercises. Provide training to leadership to ensure a good working knowledge of the Incident Management System and response. Investigate reported codes and perform debriefs for learnings with the support of the VP of HR or appropriate others as needed.Maintain training records and develop reports to share with leaders and the Joint Health and Safety Committee.Lead Joint Health and Safety Committee, maintaining annual policies consistent with legislation and codes of practice, and developing an education plan for hazard recognition and controls in the workplace.Co-lead Operations Quality Team and quality improvement initiatives.Participate as an ad hoc member of safety-related projects and as an essential resource of the construction/renovation multidisciplinary team.Participate in external meetings with focus on community or hospital safety partner.Coordinate the MORB training program, WHMIS, Annual training, and the Respirator fit testing program for the organization.Provide respirator fit testing for staff.Ensure compliance with health and safety programs including but not limited to WHMIS/GHS, N95 Respirator fit testing, MORB training, annual Vulnerable Sector evacuation, etc.Maintain the chemicals resource database (i.e. MSDS/SDS) in compliance with legislation.Working with the Coordinator of Occupational Health Services, jointly develop and implement employee safety-related programs.Assist with purchasing decisions for safety-related items.Lead, support or participate in key activities or action plans as identified on the HR and JHSC Operational Plans.Lead accreditation discussions on safety-related items.Coordinate and observe Vulnerable Occupancy Evacuation.Active participant in Ministry of Labour visits or incident reviews.Review safety incidents and follow up with applicable staff with Manager support.Active member of HR team meetings and huddles and other committees as required.
