Position Information Wyong High School has an enrolment of 700 students, including 115 Aboriginal students and 11% of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school features information technology selective classes with a STEM focus and the cohort includes seven Special Education support classes. Wyong High School has a strong and active Parent and Citizens' Association and Ngara Aboriginal Education Consultative Group that work in partnership with us to support school initiatives. We are an active member of the Wyong Learning Community, having established productive links with our partner schools and implemented initiatives such as Year 6 transition and STEM programs. The school forms part of the Lakes Trade Training Centre and offers diverse training and vocational opportunities to its students. The school enjoys a mix of both highly experienced and early career teachers and seeks to give an authentic voice to Wyong High School students in various areas through participation in the Central Coast Student Voice Alliance. Wyong High School continues to focus on quality student learning outcomes in literacy, numeracy and engagement and caters for a broad range of activities including creative and performing arts, cultural, sporting, vocational and academic pursuits.
Selection Criteria Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:
Approval to teach Special Education with proven educational leadership skills that demonstrate managing the demands of teaching students with a range of complex needs including autism, intellectual disabilities, mental health and behavioural needs and providing leadership of a dynamic faculty to ensure high expectations and drive student growth. Demonstrated capacity to lead teachers in the development and implementation of flexible and innovative learning programs that enhance student learning, engagement and support the wellbeing of students within a special education setting. Proven ability to engage and empower staff and students through effective classroom management and teaching practice. Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with students, their families and outside agencies to collaborate, develop and implement strategies for individualised support, transition, behaviour and wellbeing needs of students with specific additional learning needs. General Selection Criteria Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
