Head Teacher Special Education - Kempsey High SchoolKempsey High School (KHS) is built on the lands of the Dunghutti people and has an enrolment of 550 students including 42% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
It is a comprehensive high school (7-12), engaged in several initiatives to support students from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and for students from low socio-economic status communities.Kempsey High School is seeking compassionate, innovative, and dynamic teachers who can work within a team of school staff and community professionals to address the teaching, learning and social and emotional needs of students.
KHS has partnered with Real Schools to develop a strong culture built on positive and respectful relationships.
There is a focus on building teacher capacity through our Professional Learning Team's (HIPL), which not only embeds a culture of collaboration, but supports the professional growth of all teaching staff to deepen teaching practice for ongoing growth in student progress and achievement.The school has a priority on building highly effective systems developed through strong collaboration that will underpin ongoing school improvement.
We are further enhancing our wellbeing model across the school community, focusing on high expectations for all.
A purpose-built facility will open in 2025 that will support the delivery of key services to students and families through government and non-government inter-agency collaboration.Selection CriteriaApplicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position.
In addition to the general selection criteria:Approval to teach Special Education and promote inclusion across the school with a demonstrated ability to inspire, develop and lead a faculty based on High Expectation Relationships to meet the needs of students with complex needs.Demonstrated capacity to use the collaborative curriculum planning process to effectively design and implement innovative, inclusive, engaging teaching and learning programs that respond to the social, emotional, behavioural, academic and communication requirements of students with complex learning and behavioural needs.Demonstrated capacity to lead collaborative planning with all stakeholders to develop, implement and review Personalised Learning and Support Plans to meet the diverse needs of students with a disability, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students whilst maximising student growth and engagement.Ability to lead and support staff in developing effective classroom and behaviour management skills, wellbeing practices including trauma informed, positive education strategies to cater for a diverse range of students including those with complex needs.General Selection Criteria1.
Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.2.
Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.3.
Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.4.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.5.
Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.6.
Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
