Purpose Heads of Year 7 and 8 are members of the Student Wellbeing Team and report to the Head of Middle School, through the Assistant Head of Middle School - Students for daily operational matters relating to their year groups, and the Head of Middle School and Head of Senior School for the whole school student wellbeing agenda.

Heads of Year 9-12 are members of the Student Wellbeing Team and report directly to the Head of Senior School for daily operational matters relating to their year groups, and the Head of Middle School and Head of Senior School for the whole school student wellbeing agenda.

Heads of Years 7–12 are responsible for the wellbeing, academic progress, and personal development of year groups.

The Heads of Years 7-12 cycle with their year group to provide longitudinal support and to enable the development of effective and productive relationships with boys and their families.
They are supported by Assistant Heads of Year and lead a team of Form Tutors.

Heads of Year Responsibilities Establish and maintain a strong and supportive culture within their year group, in alignment with the Student Wellbeing Development Plan and Atmosphere of Caring document; Understand they are the key representative of the year group for their cohort, form tutors, and parents; Mentor their Assistant Heads of Year to manage student issues and are responsible for managing the more serious matters in their year group; Drive the year level agenda and implement the 'coach the carer' model to support form tutor development; Develop productive partnerships with School Marshals, Student Services, Student Wellbeing Officer (where appropriate), and school nurses to support student wellbeing and individual care; Collaborate with academic leaders to operationalise the academic curriculum in a manner that supports student development; Monitor and respond to the needs of individual students, having regard to the particular needs of boarding students; Share an overall responsibility for maintenance of high standards of behaviour, uniform, and appearance among students; Maintain a high profile of attendance at School events; Undertake regular teaching duties and work within the Cocurricular Program.
Specific Duties of Heads of Year Include: CURRICULAR Collaborate in the development of Student Wellbeing curriculum, working with the Director of Student Wellbeing Programs and Assistant Heads of Year; Participate in continuing staff development, including in the delivery of the Student Wellbeing Program and other key wellbeing programs; Collaborate with the Director of Student Wellbeing Programs in providing opportunities for student leadership in the School; Participate in policy development; Lead the implementation of the Cultural Project recommendations.
LEADERSHIP Lead the implementation of Child Protection, Behaviour Development, and Bullying policies and processes (+ related policies) Actively engage in the development of the Student Wellbeing foci each year and develop a plan for the implementation of this in their respective cohorts; Lead a team of Form Tutors in the implementation of the student wellbeing foci; Monitor individual student's needs and maintain high standards of student behaviour and individual care; Support Form Tutors in the delivery of Student Wellbeing Program; Work closely with the Assistant Head of Year in the development of their professional practice and monitor the performance of their duties; and actively engage with parents and students at social and cocurricular events to foster effective partnerships and connection.
ADMINISTRATIVE Maintain written records of student-related matters; Communicate with parents and caregivers on a regular basis; Be responsible for wellbeing reporting on students in their year group; Assist with the organisation and management of year level events; Coordinate and run year group assemblies.
Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; teaching certification is highly regarded.

Experience: Proven experience in pastoral care leadership within an educational setting, focusing on wellbeing and development.

Skills: Strong leadership and communication abilities.
Expertise in student wellbeing, behavior management, and conflict resolution.
Organisational and time management skills.
Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to challenges.
