With a vision of ensuring all students leaving our school are confident, literate learners, the Head of Special Education plays a vital role in supporting our students to successfully access the curriculum to become life long learners.
The successful applicant will be a team player with expert knowledge in creating engaging learning opportunities for a diverse range of students.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Lead the Special Education Program to provide essential guidance to classroom teachers for students with disabilities.
Provide expert advice to the school leadership team, classroom teachers, and other staff to develop, plan, and implement effective accommodations for students with disabilities.
Coordinate and advise on targeted teaching for students requiring a continuum of support and intervention.
Be part of a team that provides support, advice, and advocacy when involved with case management for students needing tailored adjustments to student programming in the context of the special education program.
Assist classroom teachers and other school staff in accessing departmental or external specialist services, professional development, and necessary supports.
Participate in school decision-making processes and professional development to contribute to school goals, vision, and planning.
Implement and coordinate school-wide systems, including data systems, to monitor students with disabilities and maintain the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disabilities.
Build and sustain partnerships with parents, other government agencies, and community groups to support students with disabilities.
Manage and coordinate the provision of high-quality advice and support to inform curriculum design, inclusive pedagogical practices, and delivery to ensure that all students can access and fully participate in learning alongside their similar-aged peers.
