Kowanyama State School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Special Education Services to join our team. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Our mission isto ensure that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This position is offered on a temporary full-time basis until 6 December 2024 unless otherwise determined.

Kowanyama State School is a Kindy - Year 10 remote indigenous community school on the Gulf of Carpentaria in Far North Queensland with an enrolment of approximately 220 students. Situated 600km North West of Cairns, the community of approximately 1200 people is isolated during the wet season each year (Dec - Mar approx.). Access to the school and community at this time is only by plane. During the dry season (Apr - Nov approx.) vehicle access is usually possible but only if the roads are passable. At Kowanyama State School, we strive every day to uphold our school values: respect learning, respect community and respect culture. Your role: As the Head of Special Education Services, you will: 
Promote an inclusive culture and practices within the school community to ensure equity and excellence for students with disability.Develop and support a high quality of teaching and adjustments for students with disability in accordance to related legislation and policies.Responsibilities include:
Manage and coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program.Lead and manage the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program to provide advice to classroom teachers for students with disability as needed.Provide high quality advice to the school leadership team, classroom teachers and other school staff to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability.Coordinate and provide intensive targeted teaching for students requiring intervention.Provide, support and/or coordinate case management for students who require extensive or substantial adjustments.Support classroom teachers and other school staff to access departmental or other external specialist services, professional development, and supports as needed.Participate in school decision making processes as well as professional development to contribute to school goals, vision and planning.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.
