About the Role
The newly formed School of Social Work will deliver sector-leading programs meeting the Australian Social Work and Accreditation Standards and will have extensive ties to our local, national and international community. The School will be actively involved in research across many social work areas and its programs will contribute to Excelsia College's vision through its commitment to educate students to promote human rights and social justice.
Duties
Excelsia College is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Head of School of Social Work. The role of Head of School of Social Work will report to the Vice Provost (Academic) to ensure effective operation of Excelsia College's School of Social Work.
Primary responsibilities include:
Teaching in the following areas: Context for Social Work Practice; Diversity, Power and Identity in Social Work Practice; Social Work Practice in Groups and Communities; Skills and Models of Intervention in Social Work; Law, Accountability and Professional Judgement; Psychosocial Health and Wellbeing in Social Work; Child Youth and Family Social Work Practice; Social Work Practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Communities; Research and Evaluation in Social Work Practice; Leadership, Organisational Practice and Policy Development in Social Work and Integrated Research. Ensuring that excellence is provided in the development of students' Social Work capabilities and in their preparation for life in the Social Work profession. Providing academic and strategic leadership, direction and oversight, to the School of Social Work in order to achieve excellence in teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and professional and academic development amongst students and staff. Ensuring the activities of the School of Social Work are operated effectively and efficiently, providing a quality experience for students and staff. Building the profile and reputation of the College with stakeholders, the community and potential students. Overseeing the School's curriculum and its development. Propose and develop new Social Work courses. Selection criteria

Qualifications and Professional Standing:
PhD completed in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or other relevant disciplines. A minimum of 5 years academic or professional or practice-based experience and expertise. Member of, or eligible membership of, the Australian Association of Social Workers. Committed Christian involved in a local congregation. Proven academic and strategic leadership and high-level management skills, including demonstrated ability to plan, delegate, and provide leadership and direction. Proven experience in leading teaching, learning, scholarship and research, including curriculum development and modification. An understanding of current and emerging trends in education and Social Work education in particular. Demonstrated ability to pursue a strong and productive program of research, with evidence of publication in high quality academic journals and books, and presentation of conference papers. Established research track record, and the capacity to develop an internationally competitive research program. Demonstrated ability to obtain external research funding. Demonstrated teaching skills at postgraduate level in areas of social policy; group work; community development; counselling; case management; research; and other practice areas. Specific emphasis will be on the demonstrated ability to teach Social Work practice skills. Ability to supervise honours and postgraduate research theses. Ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote academic discipline at a College and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies. Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop and manage staff. Previous experience in delivering courses through different mode of delivery.
