Our boarding facilities are an integral part of our school community, offering a home away from home for students from Year 7 to 12. The school is seeking a Head of Residence – Girls Boarding. This role requires strong leadership, organisational, and administrative skills. As Head of Residence, the position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of a boarding house. This includes ensuring a nurturing and structured environment that supports the pastoral, social, and academic development of students.The Head of Residence ensures consistent implementation of policies and procedures, provides exceptional pastoral care, and fosters a positive residential community. This role involves close collaboration with boarding staff, students, families, and school staff to promote student well-being, mentor boarders, and enhance their growth. The Head of Residence also supports the overall boarding community by creating a warm, home-like environment and providing social, emotional, and domestic support to students and families.This position demands a high level of care, commitment, and enthusiasm. The successful applicant will serve as a positive, energetic role model within the boarding and broader school community, upholding the School's Anglican values while respecting all backgrounds and faiths. Most of the working hours will occur outside regular school time, involving supervision in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.The Head of Residence will be required to meet the following Essential Criteria and actively work towards obtaining the desired competencies, knowledge, and skills:ABSA Duty of Care Certificate (or gained within the first 12 months of appointment).Current First Aid and CPR certificates.Suitability card "Blue card" – working with children check or registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.Experience in a pastoral leadership role.Knowledge and experience in managing a boarding environment, with a focus on contemporary pastoral care and student academic support.Understanding of ABSA's National Boarding Standards, policies, practices, and legal requirements relevant to a boarding school setting.Ability to build a climate of trust and professionalism with colleagues, students, and parents in a Christian, Anglican tradition school, while working autonomously in a multidisciplinary team.Strong ability to connect with boarding students through empathetic interactions and personalised support.Proven experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and implementing culturally inclusive strategies for Indigenous and boarding students.High attention to detail and commitment to following procedures.Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders.Proficiency in using integrated database systems and Microsoft Office.Demonstrated maturity, flexibility, creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.Excellent time management and organisational skills.Displays exemplary behaviour, language, dress, grooming, hygiene, and integrity.Awareness of occupational health and safety and anti-discrimination practices.Tertiary qualifications in the field of Residential Care.Youth Mental Health First Aid (to be gained within the first 12 months of appointment).School Student Protection Officer training.All staff at Cathedral are expected to be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers or hold a valid working with children check (blue card).Applying for the positionApplicants wishing to apply for the position are required to submit a cover letter and resume outlining their skills and experience providing 3 work references to which the school can contact.
