What you'll be doing: The Head of Privacy is a leadership role responsible for the day to day operations of the Virgin Australia Group's Privacy Management Program and providing strategic direction in relation to the Group's Privacy Framework. The role reports to the Chief Legal & Risk Officer and leads the Virgin Australia Group Privacy Team.
You will work across the breadth of the organisation, supporting the Group to identify, prevent and manage privacy risks and incidents and build a strong culture of privacy. The role requires a deep understanding of privacy and data protection laws, regulations and best practices, and the ability to effectively collaborate cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams to find value enhancing solutions that enable the Group to pursue its strategic objectives and safeguard customer trust.
You will also be required to maintain and develop the Group's Privacy Framework to ensure ongoing adherence to evolving laws, regulations, and community expectations, and work closely with cross-functional teams on data and AI governance matters.
Who we're looking for: We are looking for a pragmatic and high performing privacy leader who thrives in a dynamic and fast-moving environment and has experience advising all levels of management and leading a privacy team. You may be an experienced privacy lawyer, privacy officer or privacy professional.
You'll be great in this role if you: Have at least 10 years' experience working in privacy or a combination of privacy, legal, compliance or data governance roles.Have a deep understanding of privacy and data protection laws and regulations, privacy management best practices, data breach response activities and ethical principles and standards.Have a strong commercial mindset with the confidence and ability to influence to establish effective working relationships with senior executive leaders.Have a demonstrated ability to find value enhancing compliance solutions that can be effectively operationalised.Have experience investigating and responding to complex privacy incidents and complaints.Have experience leading a high-performing privacy or similar team.Enjoy working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams.Have a strong drive to develop a detailed understanding of aviation and loyalty, and associated technology and data processing activities.Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at a senior level and articulate complex concepts simply.Relevant higher education degree (essential).Bachelor of laws or equivalent (desirable).Recognised privacy, information technology, data or AI governance related certification or degree (desirable).What you'll get from us: We're committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):
