About The Role As our Head of Policy, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Engineers Australia's strategic policy direction.
This senior leadership position supports the General Manager, Policy and Advocacy, in delivering nationally coordinated and high-impact policy advice.
You will lead a talented team to align policy positions across our three key pillars while championing the Innovative Future pillar and overseeing Sustainable Future initiatives in energy and climate change.
Your work will extend beyond policy development to include public advocacy and government collaboration, promoting the science and practice of engineering for the benefit of the community.
This role offers a unique opportunity to combine leadership, strategy, and advocacy to drive meaningful change for the engineering sector.

Location Flexible – Work from any Engineers Australia office nationwide

In This Role You Will Lead Policy Coordination: Oversee EA's policy agenda, focusing on the Innovative Future pillar and supporting the Sustainable Future pillar led by Senior Policy Advisors.Research and Evidence: Guide Senior Policy Advisors in researching, consulting on, and forming policy positions on critical public policy issues.Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain productive relationships with EA member groups, external stakeholders, government agencies, and industry associations.Public Representation: Represent Engineers Australia at government consultations, industry forums, and networking events.Strategic Support: Provide high-level policy advice to the General Manager, ensuring alignment with EA's strategic positioning.Cross-Pillar Coordination: Work closely with the Head of Advocacy to align efforts on the Skilled Future pillar and other initiatives.Emerging Issues: Monitor national trends and emerging policy issues relevant to engineers and EA's mission.Collaborative Leadership: Partner with EA members, advocacy allies, Division General Managers, and internal teams to shape and promote policy initiatives.Operational Delivery: Manage competing priorities, ensuring projects align with EA's Annual Plan and maintaining consistency across policy portfolios. Here's What We're Looking For Leadership & Experience: Demonstrated people leadership and over five years of experience in policy and advocacy roles, including project management.Policy Development: Expertise in creating evidence-based policy advice, analysing issues, applying frameworks, and engaging senior executives and technical experts.Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Effective communication skills and proven ability to build relationships across diverse internal and external stakeholders, including underrepresented STEM professionals.Advocacy & Representation: Experience representing organizations in government consultations, industry forums, and parliamentary hearings.Technical Skills: Strong writing skills for various formats (policy papers, reports, submissions) and an understanding of Australian government systems.Adaptability & Independence: Proven ability to manage workloads independently and quickly develop expertise in new policy areas.
