The role We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Payroll and People Systems to lead and enhance our Payroll and People Systems teams. This role involves supporting robust delivery and continued optimisation of the organisation's end to end payroll of over 2000 employees across the Group, along with ensuring that the organisation's human resources technology investments are developed, maintained and optimised in line with strategic and tactical people priorities. The Head of Payroll and People Systems coaches and develops their team to ensure consistent ways of working and to drive continued value realisation of the functions.
What you'll bring to the role As a senior leader at A&G, you'll model our values and culture, driving high performance with integrity and finding solutions that benefit all stakeholders. You'll lead, coach, and develop the Payroll and People Systems teams by managing payroll and HR transactions, developing performance metrics, ensuring compliance, leading system enhancements, and optimising financial performance, while modelling A&G's values and fostering a high-performance culture.
Additionally, your responsibilities will be focused on the following areas:
Lead, coach, and develop the Payroll and People Systems, ensuring operational excellence and a focus on employee experience. Manage direct reports, promoting continuous improvement and high performance. Celebrate successes and cultivate a culture of integrity and high performance. Key Responsibilities: Maximise the use and effectiveness of resources (people, systems, and processes) to deliver professional, business-focused HR service to business divisions. Act as a business leader who sets strategic direction and clears roadblocks to achieve execution excellence. Provide effective people leadership to enable the continuous improvement of the functions. Maintain awareness of changing legislative and compliance requirements and ensure appropriate management of risk and control processes. Oversee the response to internal and external audit programs. Actively manage the operational budget, resource assets and leave planning to deliver strong financial performance and identify opportunities for improved financial outcomes, including effective management of vendors and partners. Develop and maintain SLAs for key deliverables, in consultation with key stakeholders. Continuously drive improvements in tools and policies through external market trends, insight and internal best practice. Ensure robust documentation and tools are in use across the team, including process maps, work instructions and fit for purpose learning materials. Play an active role in implementing and embedding the Auto & General Way, overall business strategy and People & Culture priorities. Proactively identify opportunities to optimise P&C effectiveness and efficiency, including both overseeing and hands-on management of projects and initiatives. Qualifications and Experience: You are a seasoned leader with extensive experience in Payroll and HR technology functions. Skilled in managing payroll processes, HRIS systems, and HR legislation, you excel in translating business strategy into effective programs and initiatives. You have a proven track record in project and change management, delivering measurable results and improvements. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills enable you to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. With a deep understanding of HR technology solutions and a focus on continuous improvement, you drive operational excellence and enhance team performance. Your commercial acumen and strategic vision make you a valuable asset in optimising our Payroll and People Systems.
You will also possess the following:
Tertiary qualification in HR, Business, or related field; preferred but not essential. Proven ability to develop engaged, high-performing teams. Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and analytical skills. Experience in change management, relationship building, and commercial acumen. Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability.
