Indie Education is a leading independent school network with campuses across Australia, and we are seeking an experienced, proactive Legal Counsel / Head of Legal to join our team at our Mirrabooka or Ellenbrook campuses in Western Australia.
As the Senior Legal Counsel and Head of Legal, you will play a critical role in helping shape the legal strategy for Indie Education, ensuring compliance, managing risk, and protecting the organisation's interests across various domains, including employment law, property, regulatory compliance, and child protection.

Given our national presence, you will be expected to travel regularly between campuses, collaborating with colleagues across Australia.
While prior interstate experience is beneficial, it is not a requirement.
Responsibilities: Provide high-level legal counsel across a wide range of issues, including compliance, employment law, contracts, and risk management.Advise on legal and commercial risks, offering strategies to mitigate liability and protect Indie's interests.Lead dispute resolution efforts and manage litigation support, liaising with external legal providers as necessary.Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of legal documents, ensuring they align with the organisation's risk management strategies.Deliver legal services supporting investment projects and strategic growth initiatives, offering insights on regulatory, IT, and procurement matters.Serve as a trusted advisor, collaborating with senior management on complex legal and compliance matters.Supervise and mentor junior legal employees, fostering professional development and maintaining high standards of legal service delivery.Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external legal providers, ensuring smooth and effective legal operations.Key Skills & Experience Required: Minimum 6 years' post-admission experience, ideally within an in-house environment, or with a reputable law firm.Proven expertise in dispute resolution and litigation support.Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on analytical abilities to assess and manage legal risks effectively.High proficiency in contract drafting, negotiation, and commercial strategy.Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with internal teams and external legal partners effectively.At Indie Education, you'll be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking organisation committed to creating inclusive, safe, and innovative learning environments for students across Australia.
