The Head of Junior School (preschool to Year 6), in collaboration with the Assistant Head of Junior School, is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management, teaching, and learning of the Junior School, embodying the school's values.
Key Duties:
School Improvement and Strategic Leadership: Lead the school's strategic direction and goals as part of the Executive Leadership Team. Oversee learning outcomes and student wellbeing in the Junior School, engaging proactively with parents. Develop strategic partnerships to support school goals. Foster a positive and engaging environment for staff, students, and parents. Monitor and evaluate teaching strategies to enhance literacy and numeracy outcomes using research-based knowledge and student data. Teaching and Learning Leadership: Lead colleagues to evaluate and improve learning and teaching programs tailored to diverse student needs. Initiate and lead school programs to enhance content knowledge and teaching strategies. Ensure a high-quality curriculum, providing direction on curriculum, assessment, and reporting. Communicate daily, weekly, and term goals with teachers, seeking feedback on progress. Mentor and coach staff, overseeing their wellbeing and professional development. Organisational Leadership: Manage the Junior School budget in consultation with the Business Manager. Ensure smooth daily operations and effective communication systems within the Junior School. Lead professional learning activities and staff meetings aligned with the School Improvement Plan. Review teaching loads and make recommendations for effective staff deployment. Address staff and parental issues professionally and supportively. Support enrolment growth and student retention by leading school tours and engaging with parents. Ensure proper use and maintenance of school facilities. Attend to compliance matters and proactively communicate with parents through various channels. Perform other duties as directed by the Principal. Selection Criteria: Proven strategic leadership experience in a primary setting or equivalent, including innovative program development and staff professional learning. Superior knowledge of contemporary teaching and learning programs for a culturally diverse and academically rigorous environment. Skills in resource and financial budget management. Collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills with demonstrated impact on student outcomes. Experience working with an active school community in a large, complex environment. Advanced human resource management skills with the ability to lead and influence in a changing environment. High-level communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build networks and interact with diverse cultures. Degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in Education. Must maintain a current teaching registration in the Northern Territory or be able to obtain one. Be informed of WHS legislative requirements and take steps to understand how it applies to them. Obtain and maintain a valid Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and a satisfactory Police Security Check. Postgraduate qualifications in educational leadership.
