About the role:
The Head of Information Technology oversees the management and directs the Institute's information technology (IT) operations, ensuring the department provides efficient and effective technical support service. This role oversees the Information technology implementation and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems across the Florey as well as management of specific IT projects.
The candidate will be responsible for:
Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing the IT strategy to align with business goals.
Team Management: Leading the IT department, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
Budget Management: Overseeing the IT budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with organisational priorities.
Technology Oversight: Evaluating and implementing new technologies to enhance productivity and security.
Cybersecurity: Developing and enforcing security policies to protect sensitive information and maintain compliance with regulations.
Vendor Management: Negotiating with and managing relationships with technology vendors and service providers, including managing the IT Service agreement relationship with University of Melbourne.
Project Management: Overseeing IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet requirements and deadlines.
Stakeholder Communication: Collaborating with other departments to ensure technology supports their needs and sharing updates with executive leadership.
Innovation and Improvement: Keeping abreast of industry trends and technologies to continually improve IT services and infrastructure.
This position is a permanent, full-time role. The role attracts an annual salary of Professional Staff Level 10 commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will have:
Experience: Significant senior IT leadership and management experience, with a sustained track record of delivery of strategic IT initiatives across organisations.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud computing, software development, and emerging technologies.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to align IT strategies with business goals and anticipate future technology trends.
Leadership and Management Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, as well as manage cross-functional projects.
Financial Acumen: Experience in budget management and cost optimisation strategies.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical skills to identify issues and develop innovative solutions.
Project Management Experience: Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across departments.
Change Management: Experience in leading and managing organisational change, particularly related to technology adoption.
Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, PMP, CISSP) to enhance credibility and demonstrate expertise.
