Biotechnology & Genetics (Science & Technology)
Infensa Bioscience is a pioneering biotechnology company focused on developing innovative treatments for myocardial infarction (heart attack) and stroke, two leading causes of death in Australia and worldwide. Our mission is to revolutionize the treatment of ischemic organ injury by advancing our discoveries into clinical trials and bringing novel therapies to patients in need.
As Head of Discovery, you will lead our drug discovery programs and play a role in advancing drug candidates from the discovery phase through early development and into clinical trials. Reporting to the CEO (Mark Smythe) and working closely with the Senior Management team, you will direct key activities in drug discovery, providing strategic oversight and ensuring the scientific rigor necessary to progress our pipeline.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the discovery team in driving hits and leads through optimization toward clinical trials. Design, manage, and analyze cell-based and animal model studies of disease. Develop and implement research strategies to move drug candidates efficiently from discovery to early development. Coordinate research efforts with Project Management, overseeing in vitro and in vivo studies to meet program milestones. Analyze data, prepare technical reports, and present progress updates for internal meetings, the CEO/CSO, and the Board. Manage external CROs and vendors to support studies, ensuring quality and timely deliverables. Also, manage contracts, communications, and reports for external partners (e.g., CROs) engaged in the biology program. Stay current on relevant scientific advancements, integrating innovative techniques and findings into Infensa's research pipeline. Oversee research budgets to optimize resources while maintaining the highest research standards. Support hands-on experimental work, including the development and optimization of assays for use in the biology program. Evaluate biological validation assays for candidate drug compounds and their potential efficacy. Explore new therapeutic and business opportunities by investigating disease mechanisms with support from the internal team and consultants. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project deadlines and deliver milestones. Qualifications:
PhD in Biology, Pharmacology, or related field (required). Proven track record in leading discovery teams and translating compounds to the clinic. Previous industry experience preferred, or with postdoctoral research in pharmacology in different disease models. Proven track record in the design, execution, and analysis of animal models of disease is highly preferred. Expertise in cardiovascular biology and disease modelling preferred. Experience in drug discovery and development expected. Proven track record in identifying therapeutic areas with significant unmet medical need. Experience managing relationships with CROs and contract research partners. Previous experience in biomarker discovery and development. Demonstrated ability to lead preclinical studies, including in vivo and in vitro assays. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to work independently. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Why Join Us:
Infensa Bioscience offers an opportunity to work with an experienced leadership team with deep drug development expertise. In this pivotal role, you will drive programs that have the potential to transform the treatment of ischemic diseases and make a significant impact on patients' lives.
Applications including a cover letter should be addressed to Louisa Carey, Chief Operating Officer, via Applications close on Sunday 1 December 2024.
