As part of DEC's executive leadership team the Head of Programming leads DEC's Programmingteam and is responsible for the design and implementation of DEC's artistic and commercial activity.This position is responsible the program strategy that will see DEC positioned as one of Australia'smost important, commercially sustainable and dynamic performing arts centres.
About The Centre
Darwin Entertainment Centre is a Not-for-Profit Company Limited by Guarantee. Located in Darwin, itis known as the premier performing arts centre within the Northern Territory. Performances range fromlocal school and small productions to international touring entertainment performances.
We also manage the George Brown Botanical Gardens Amphitheatre on behalf of the City of Darwin.This involves liaising with promoters, stakeholders and facilitating and safely delivering performancesat the venue.
Key Accountabilities of the Role
Advocacy
• Promote DEC and the Amphitheatre as the preferred venues for hire to local businesses,conference organisers and interstate promoters.
• Promote DEC's internal ticketing services and box office as the preferred ticketing outlet tohirers, local businesses, conference organisers and international / interstate promoters.
Team Management• Contribute to a positive workplace culture that supports other staff, and key client Hirers and
Audience members.• Manage, develop and mentor the Programming Team to book, scope, create and deliver a
high-quality, diverse, inclusive, relevant, commercially viable programming suite.
Program Development
• Collaborate with the CEO and Leadership Team to ensure key objectives are met in the areasof programming, new work development, advocacy, research and analysis, and sector andstaff capacity building.
• Provide information and opportunities to deliver strategic programming outcomes.• Pitch and develop project plans and budgets to relevant internal stakeholders.• Identify, evaluate, and recommend content as part of the annual performance program and in
line with the organisation's strategic vision.• Generate commercial content to drive profit, utilisation and occupancy.• Create high-quality shows and events that achieve strategic goals with a funded and financially
viable model of ticket sales and funding.• Coordinate and viably grow the resident company program of events and sourcing
commensurate funding to support program objectives.• Create and appropriately negotiate and model performance project budgets and venture
proposals as required for formal approval.

• Acquire and distribute, and continue to manage event information to internal teams, serviceproviders, stakeholders, and presenters through to settlement.
• Program and produce DEC Presents Shows and Festivals as well as oversee the delivery ofExternal festival venue hire activities.
• Remain vigilant and aware of funding opportunities that aren't typically aligned with the arts.• Attend and potentially present at performing arts conferences nationally.
• Oversee the coordination, performance logistics and artist services including flights, visas,accommodation, and ground transport requirements.
• Nurture mutually beneficial working relationships and networks with a wide range of internaland external stakeholders at a national and local level.
• If necessary, assist artists and crew performing at DEC as reasonably required.• Attend and evaluate as is reasonable, curated Festivals, events and performances.
Administration
• Oversee and assist where necessary, the accurate and consistent use of the venue bookingcalendar.
• Undertake and oversee contract administration for DEC produced, co-produced andentrepreneurial works.
• Negotiate a range of performance and production fees and deal models as required.• Demonstrate financial acumen by creating and overseeing event and deal model budgets both
for DEC produced works.• Source and complete grant funding applications, project plans and acquittals.• Participate in workplace health and safety and risk management.• Other duties as required.
• Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in an arts organisation programming, delivering andadministrating performances.
• Experience planning, programming, and executing performance contracts, services, andlogistics.
• Proficiency with Office 365 suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.• A thorough understanding of the commercial terms of negotiating live performances and
experience sourcing funding through regional and national arts funding bodies.• Experience in developing and executing live performances.• Demonstrated commercial acumen and end-to-end financial performance/touring budgeting• Strong level of communication skills including the ability to present in-person to both the
business and community sectors.• A strong network of local and national arts connections.• Experience managing a high-performing team to achieve shared goals and outcomes.
Advantageous Criteria
• Experience using an event management booking system such as Momentus Elite.• Experience leading a performing arts centre programming team or stream.
