The Role
Verso Projects is seeking a Head of Design to manage the design and compliance of all projects, managing the process from initial concept through to final as-builts.
As a key member of the construction team, this leadership role requires you to collaborate closely with both the Development teams to ensure designs meet project objectives while balancing quality, cost, and construction efficiency.
While the primary focus will be on residential developments, the role will also involve multi-residential, retail, and educational projects.
As Head of Design, you will be responsible for:
Managing the design of projects and managing external consultants to ensure high-quality design outcomes are delivered on time and within budget. Overseeing the design and regulatory compliance process, from Development Application (DA) packages to Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings. Contributing to project costings and value management processes. Coordinating multiple design disciplines and ensuring smooth integration between teams. Building and expanding the in-house design capabilities, including the development of standardized designs, details, and minimum standards. This is an exciting opportunity to not only manage the design of key projects but also to shape and grow Verso's in-house design team and processes. Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership and Design Management: Manage consultants to ensure the design process meets high-quality standards within set timeframes and budget constraints. Ensure that designs comply with building codes, regulations, and planning requirements. Oversee the coordination of all design disciplines to prevent issues during construction. Project Coordination and Value Management: Lead value management processes to optimize project costings while maintaining design quality and functionality. Collaborate with internal teams (Development, Construction) to ensure alignment between design and project objectives. Manage submission processes for authority approvals and ensure all regulatory requirements are met. In-House Design Development: Build up the in-house design team and develop internal design processes, ensuring standardization and efficiency. Develop design packages and specifications that align with the company's goals and construction practices. Produce design documentation and construction drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools. Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external consultants. Collaborate closely with the onsite construction team to ensure designs are implemented as intended. The Successful Candidate Will:
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Architectural Design or a related field. Registered Architect. Preference for candidates with a QBCC licence in building design (though not essential). Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in design management and architecture, ideally across multiple construction sectors. Strong experience in residential construction is highly desirable. Solid understanding of the Development Approval process, planning requirements, and construction codes and regulations. Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other project management tools. Proven ability to manage and prioritize workloads across multiple projects. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders to ensure positive design outcomes. Ability to speak Mandarin fluently not essential. Why Join Verso Projects?
