Mount Isa School of the Air is seeking an enthusiastic educator with a passion for student engagement and success for the role of Head of Department.
We are a P - 10 school of distance education, located in Mount Isa in beautiful North-West Queensland.Our school caters for a diverse group of students, both geographically isolated and those students accessing our learning space from all over Queensland.
We currently have an enrolment of approximately 180 students.The Head of Department - Student Engagement is a new position at our school.
The successful applicant would need to relocate to Mount Isa, be willing to travel to where our students are located and be able to participate in all aspects of our school culture.This role is offered on a full-time temporary basis, until 06 December 2024, unless otherwise determined.About The RoleAs the Head of Department, Student Engagement you will: Focus on initiatives to support the educational outcomes for students.Incorporate the vision of Early Childhood and State Schools Division into school planning.Develop the quality of teaching and learning.Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and the community.You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks: Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students.Where requested, prepare all data returns for senior management.Monitor students' individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.Communicate and work with parents, higher education institutes and State Schools Division to improve learning outcomes, student achievements and attendance.Work with, and provide tools for, the regional executive team and teachers to utilise in relation to student achievement and attendance.Develop and implement community engagement strategies and programs with other organisations, local businesses and non-profit organisations.Liaise with external agencies (for example, indigenous support agencies) to support new arrivals and their families through integrating them into the new environment and incorporate the holistic needs of new students including academic, social and emotional.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.
