About Sarina State High School Sarina State High School exists to make a real difference to the learning and development of every student for life as a citizen, within the context of a caring and supportive environment and through productive partnerships of students, parents and staff.
Sarina State High School was established in 1956 with an enrolment of only 40 students.
In 1964 the school moved to the current location in Anzac Street where it continues to grow and flourish within the community.
About the Role Head of Department - Head of Year (HOY) are key figures in the wellbeing of students.
HOYs play an important role in maintaining the school's high expectations culture by promoting school pride and belonging, developing students' personal responsibilities, motivating academic engagement, facilitating school and community participation, enhancing positive relationships and supporting every student, every day to achieve success at school.
HOYs know their cohort and ensure they are connected to their peers and feel a sense of belonging at school.
They maintain regular communication with parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress and any areas of concern.
They foster strong relationships with families to support student success.
The role of HOY is proactive, data-driven, and relational.
HOYs know the students in the Year level and can advocate for and facilitate programs to address the cohort's wellbeing needs.
HOYs play a pivotal role in assisting students to be the best they can be through a focus on both student well-being and the good order and management of the school.
The following elements support students to be their best:Student Wellbeing and AttendanceStudent Growth and Connectedness to their peers and a sense of belonging at schoolMaintaining high expectations - attendance, uniform, behaviour/effort, and work completionProvide targeted support for students experiencing difficulties in the classroom or playground, addressing individual needs to improve their overall school experience.Facilitate school and community participationCelebrate growth and achievementsIn many instances, the HOY is the initial point of contact for the range of enquiries made by parents, staff, students, other schools, and the community.
