We are seeking an experienced Head of Department (Junior Secondary) for a full-time permanent position commencing 22 January 2025. As a Head of Department (Junior Secondary) at Varsity College, you will be an integral part of our Secondary teaching team, leading the delivery of a vibrant curriculum to our students and possessing a strong knowledge of content and pedagogy.
You will specialise in the ability to differentiate the curriculum to the diverse learning needs of our student cohort, particularly in the area of the junior secondary phase of learning. You will possess a passion for promoting and embedding an inclusive culture and practices within the school community, ensuring equity and excellence, with a strong desire to engage, connect and enhance learning outcomes for all students.

About the Role Under the direction and leadership of the Deputy Principal (Junior Secondary) in your role as Head of Department you will:
Focus on initiatives to support the educational outcomes for students, specifically in the junior phase of learning.Track key attendance data sets with focus on YTD, TTD and weekly trends.Support the Dean in issuing consequences for students with patterns of truancy, late to class, late to school and early departures.Determine actions for at-risk students through data analysis at key junctures, and strategise interventions.Lead the Academic Action Plan intervention group and the analysis of Yr 7 NAPLAN data.Track student behaviour data with a focus on daily, weekly and termly junctures, and Case Manage students.Lead behaviour including referrals for proactive programs and supportive measures, including referrals to support team, goal setting with students, and enacting consequences for behaviour.Lead the organisation of Orientation Day, primary school engagement and transition events.Lead and support PAT testing.Be committed to creating a school-wide culture of wellbeing, engagement and personal achievement that values diversity, responding to the needs and interests of students and staff.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.
