An exciting opportunity exists for a highly skilled, innovative and experienced educational leader who is keen to contribute to the continuing growth and development of the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC). As the Head of Department (Industrial Technology and Design), you will be responsible for leading a small team of teachers and vocational trainers to enact the school's strategic plan and explicit improvement agenda.
The successful applicant will be responsible for continual improvement of the curriculum, nurturing relationships, promoting quality teaching through building the capability of teaching staff and targeted student support. Experience teaching vocational education (construction, engineering etc) will be highly regarded.

About The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre
The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre is a Department of Education school operating inside the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. The staff at BYETC are passionate about helping improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of our students, many of whom have had disrupted or negative experiences of schooling.
About the Role
As the Head of Department, you will have responsibility for the following:
Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students. Embed socially just practices in daily school life. Set high standards for student and staff performance. Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development. Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups. Be futures oriented and strategic. Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department. Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school department to achieve goals.
