Innisfail State College is seeking a Head of Department (Curriculum) to work in the diverse learning centre, developing curriculum and working with students with disabilities from pre-prep to year 12.

This role is offered on a temporary full-time basis, from 23 January 2025 until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.

About Innisfail State College

Innisfail State College opened in 2010 on the site of the former TAFE campus. Today Innisfail State College is an integrated campus, with Secondary students in Years 7 to 12, Diverse Learning Centre students from Pre-Prep to Year 12, and local TAFE students sharing the school's facilities. Our purpose is to meet the learning needs of all students and provide each young person or adult with the opportunity to achieve success in their future outcomes. We pride ourselves on preparing our students for diverse opportunities once they leave school by offering traditional academic subjects as well as nationally accredited vocational subjects to equip our students for the workforce.

Innisfail is a beautiful rural town just 90 minutes south of Cairns, best known for its sugar and banana industries and high seasonal rain.

About The Role

This role will lead curriculum focus and development in line with school and departmental initiatives and to develop quality of teaching and learning.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To: Ensure that prescribed pedagogy and assessment are explicitly represented in teaching and learning programs.Support teachers to engage and understand curriculum demands that ensure a knowledge-rich, high expectation curriculum, enabling deep learning inclusive of all learners.Establish and support appropriate record-keeping processes to document systematic curriculum delivery and assessment.Ensure consultation with parents/carers regarding any curriculum adjustments for students with identified needs, in accordance with relevant legislation.Support classroom teachers in creating ICPs to determine academic levels, after which the HOD curriculum must support teachers to determine the entry point into the curriculum while developing cycling moderation meetings.Ensure teachers provide intellectually challenging learning opportunities for all students, regardless of their starting point by supporting teachers in understanding the curriculum.Model and build staff belief that all students can make excellent learning progress and encourage staff to have high expectations for student learning, behaviour, and wellbeing.Provide regular feedback to staff on their teaching practice and develop processes to collaboratively evaluate the impact of practice on student learning.Support the development of HICP or ICP as appropriate.Conduct risk assessments.Focus on learning outcomes.Assess and report against aspects of achievement standards.Ensure appropriate levels of challenge.Maintain a P-10 sequence of achievement with supporting evidence.Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.
