Head of Data Governance and Management Establish, lead, and oversee icare's data & Artificial Intelligence governance strategy, policies, and practices.
Min of 15 yrs of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields.Experience in leading data & AI governance conversation & influencing board & executives.Permanent Role | Sydney office | Hybrid working environment.About the Role The Head of Data Governance and Management is responsible for establishing, leading, and overseeing the organization's data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance strategy, policies, and practices. This role ensures the effective and ethical management of data, aligning data policies with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
The Head of Data Governance and Management will work with senior leaders within icare and influence them to improve data awareness and drive transformational thinking in embedding data ownership across icare and build a culture of data-driven decision making across the organisation. It also includes improving quality and reliability of data across icare through leading data improvement and awareness programs.
Duties As Head of Data Governance and Management, you will:
Thought lead the development and implementation of data governance frameworks and policies, data quality management strategies, AI risk evaluation and mitigation plans.Accountable for the development and embedment of ethical data handling, responsible AI policies and guidelines across the business.Collaborate with the senior leadership team to influence and build a data culture ensuring data is treated as an asset and used to drive business decisions.Work with the GM of Data, Analytics, Automation and AI to develop and present data management and governance strategies and roadmap at SLT and Board.Thought lead the development of responsible AI policy, standards and guidelines to enable sustainable and transparent use of emerging AI technologies.Own the setting up and running of Governance committees, Data owner's forum, Data stewardship network.Develop practices for designing, building and deploying AI in accordance with NSW AI framework with clear principles to build trust in decision making.Thought lead capability development for responsible AI advisory and governance, AI risk assessment, monitoring, compliance and security.Monitor and evaluate emerging risks related to data management and AI technologies.Drive improvement in icare's data management maturity working collaboratively with data platform, architecture, security and business teams.Develop the operating model for the data governance and management team and oversee governance programs and initiatives.Evangelise the use of data in driving business operations through continuous focus on improving data quality across icare.Lead engagement, adoption and uplift in quality of data across icare by developing data quality improvements strategy and roadmaps.Partner with enterprise risk to measure and manage data risk across the organisation.Influence senior leaders and build a culture of data ownership, embed best practice data management processes.Take ownership to liaise with other NSW government agencies to drive data ecosystem and build a culture of reliable and privacy-controlled data sharing.Develop and deliver training programs on data governance, ethical use of data, responsible application of AI technologies.Own and implement plan to ensure icare is compliant with all NSW and other emerging Data and AI governance requirements, standards and policies.Stay up to date with emerging global thinking on AI ethics, responsible use of AI and data management methods.Accountable for uplifting master data management, reference data and metadata management capability.Actively build team capability through driving proactive training, hiring and team skill management.Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the data governance and management teams.Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging risks and governance practices.Foster collaboration between the data platform, data science and business optimisation team.Build and lead a team of data governance professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development.Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on data governance matters.Your story so far: Minimum of 15 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields.Demonstrated experience in leading data and AI governance conversation and influencing board and executive leadership team.Demonstrated experience in building data ecosystem through partnership.Experience in leading discussion at senior leader levels and driving transformation programs.Experience in setting up enterprise data risk management capability.Proven experience in lifting organisations data maturity through proactive development and implementation of strategies and initiatives.Knowledge of emerging AI risk management policies and standards.Deep understanding of master data, meta data and reference data principles, technologies and architectural design and implementation.Proven experience in leading data governance initiatives and implementing data governance frameworks.Strong understanding of data-related regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, CPG-235).Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence strategic decision within the organisation.High-level business acumen with experience in leading data led transformation.Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.Proven project management experience needed to drive transformation and manage multi-project, multi-team delivery model.Have the capability to lead, manage and motivate teams and build a high-performance culture.Culture We know our strength comes from the diversity of our people and would encourage people with different experiences and backgrounds to apply.
