Alfred Health Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. About the Department Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Service has 5 units (Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology and Human Molecular Pathology). APS has the main laboratory at The Alfred as well as a small local laboratory at Sandringham hospital. Since 2022 the Alfred Pathology Service has formed a shared service with Monash Pathology with appointments of a common CEO in 2023 and of a Chief Operating Officer and a Chief Pathologist in 2024. From September 2025 the service will be providing all pathology testing for Western Health and the position will be providing professional oversight for the relevant sections of the pathology laboratories and point of care testing at Western Health. APS has several collection centres and is responsible for collection of about 50% of its samples. A dedicated computing group supports the computing needs of APS. The services of APS include routine and esoteric laboratory testing with complete specialist support for test interpretation. Due to the nature of the associated hospitals' activities, there is emphasis on the support of trauma and emergency services, the support of organ transplantation - especially heart and lung, the support of HIV and AIDS related diagnostic services and support of bone marrow transplantation services. The various APS units are affiliated with Monash University and most Consultants hold honorary or substantial teaching appointments. APS is actively involved in educational and professional development training programs for under-graduate and post-graduate students, medical students and registrars. Units are also involved in and support a wide range of research activity in association with hospital clinical units, Baker IDI, Burnet Institute, Monash University and other groups. APS actively supports ongoing professional development and research within areas of diagnostic interest. About the Role Applications are invited for the position of Head of Clinical Biochemistry at Alfred Health to provide strong management and leadership to the Department working 0.8 EFT (30.4 hours per week). Qualifications and Skills Required Our preferred candidate must possess the following experience and attributes: * Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact on their clinical practice * Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia with qualifications in Chemical Pathology * Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Chemical Pathology * Meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Chemical Pathology * Demonstrated leadership in the delivery of clinical services * Outstanding communication skills, including well-developed conflict resolution skills * Ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels * Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/ other teams * Demonstrated interest in teaching and mentoring of junior medical staff and in relevant research Enquiries: Prof Hans Schneider, Program Director Pathology Alfred Health and Chief Pathologist, shared Pathology Services, via email: ****** Applications close: Tuesday 9th July 2024 Alfred Health is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the community we serve.
