As the inaugural Head of Business Development, you will have the opportunity to shape strategy, define operational processes, and unlock untapped markets, leveraging the institute's immense potential to create meaningful partnerships and commercial ventures. We are looking for a candidate with a strategic mindset and a passion for collaboration, adept at engaging with high-level government and industry professionals. You will be skilled in translating complex scientific information into compelling narratives that resonate with diverse stakeholders, both in writing and verbally. This role will be instrumental in meeting and exceeding individual, team, and institutional performance metrics. Working closely with the Strategic Partnerships (Government & Industry) team, you will identify internal strengths, align them with potential industry partners, and foster productive relationships and successful partnerships that support IMB's growth. As part of the Stakeholder Partnerships Team, you will work alongside a team that will enable you to leverage expertise in advancement, business development, and marketing communications to maximise opportunities and drive impact. Collaborating with key members of the Institute Executive, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing research funding from industry partners and advancing IMB's strategic priorities, aligning efforts with the strategic research themes of both the Institute and the University. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 5 years at HEW Level 10A. Salary is negotiable commensurate with experience. About You Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading and uniting diverse internal and external stakeholders to develop and manage major research and engagement partnerships. They will provide strategic advice and entrepreneurial insights while demonstrating a strong understanding of the higher education landscape and current trends and policies affecting the sector. With a proven track record in negotiating and managing complex, sensitive projects of national significance—particularly within health and biomedical science policy contexts—they excel in problem-solving and risk management, enabling them to navigate intricate issues with sound judgment. In addition to their strategic capabilities, the candidate possesses exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills, allowing them to build collaborative relationships across diverse backgrounds and sectors effectively. They are adept at developing strategies to navigate funding programs and secure financial support. Equipped with substantial knowledge of university-based innovation, contracting, and project development, they thrive in project management, performing well under pressure and meeting concurrent deadlines. Their highly developed written communication skills enable them to produce quality documentation tailored for highly educated audiences.
