Our large wholesale nursery in Cornubia is looking for a Head Grower to join our team.
Head Grower Responsibilities include: Oversee all quarantine and biosecurity programmes and requirements to ensure both audit and continual compliance. Fine-tune all grow times to ensure plant is at spec at nominated delivery date. Develop and improve crop production blueprints. Oversee all growing media recipes, both the formulation and QA of externally supplied components. Determine optimal pruning timings and techniques. Determine crop growing locations to optimize crop growth and development. Oversee onsite mother stock technical program – health, cutting quality, replacement intervals. Manage water quality. Work closely with the propagation manager to ensure propagation spec matches potted plant requirements. Provide input to the production team on issues that impact directly on plant quality – potting depth, orientation, etc. Implement grouping plans and crop locations. Manage all plant nutrition including rates and application timing (CRF, top dress, fertigation). Work with the growing team on IPM programs and pest and disease management. Proactively respond to new and improved growing inputs, keeping connected with improved technology and techniques. Work closely with the growing team to optimize irrigation application. Manage all aspects of the irrigation system – identifying inconsistencies, uniformity, etc. Develop capital improvement plans to present at annual capital expenditure planning meeting. Ensure growing infrastructure is adequately maintained and all ongoing programs are adhered to. In conjunction with the maintenance manager, oversee all growing related capital upgrades, ensuring that works result in the best case crop climate and development. Oversee all climate management of igloo structures, including heating, ventilation, and shading. Oversee weed management program, including pre-emergent applications and weed sprays. Identification of forward orders and management of plant growth to achieve DIFOT. Participate in inventory stock takes. If you have the experience and passion to fill this position, please apply now.
