Job Description:
We are on the lookout for a talented Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. As the Head Chef at Bingil Bay Cafe, you will be responsible for creating exceptional dishes that highlight the best of our local produce. You will oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, including menu planning, costing, ordering supplies, food preparation and kitchen staff management, and ensuring each dish meets our high standards of quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:
Create, test, and implement new recipes, à la carte menus, and specials that showcase diverse culinary influences while balancing creativity with cost-effectiveness.
Cater for groups and events (up to 80 guests) with high-quality menu options.
Actively participate in cooking and oversee dish preparation to meet our restaurant standards, ensuring consistency in taste, portion size, and presentation.
Direct kitchen operations and manage staff to ensure efficient service and high morale.
Estimate and monitor food and labor costs, optimizing resources without compromising quality.
Support food purchasing, inventory management, and cost control efforts, including effective waste management.
Ensure all aspects of food purchasing, including specifications and stock control, are closely monitored and managed daily.
Work closely with owners, kitchen staff, and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Select, guide, and mentor kitchen staff, promoting a collaborative and positive work environment.
Schedule staff shifts and manage kitchen staffing needs.
Ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards, maintaining a clean and organised kitchen.
Address and resolve any issues related to food quality or customer complaints promptly.
Qualifications:
Diploma of Hospitality Management.
Minimum 2 years experience performing the role as a head chef and managing a kitchen team.
Requirements:
Proven ability to excel in breakfast, lunch, and dinner services.
Creativity in developing specials and adapting to seasonal ingredients.
Sound knowledge of HACCP food safety and hygiene procedures.
Profound understanding of culinary techniques, kitchen equipment, and industry trends.
Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Efficiency under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
