The Eva Copper Mine (ECM) is located in North West Queensland approximately 75km north-west of Cloncurry. The greenfield Eva Copper Mine Project is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd.
The Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. The project is permitted, and the mine site will include development of these pits, a copper concentrator, associated processing and non-processing services and infrastructure including tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, water management facilities, power generation and an accommodation village.
Harmony is the largest gold producer, by volume, in South Africa owning and operating numerous mining and tailings retreatment operations. Harmony also owns and operates the Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea including holding 50% (Joint Venture with Newmont) in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These Papua New Guinea assets together with the Eva Copper Mine Project supported by the Harmony Australasia corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Harmony is currently preparing to progress the Execution Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams. The Execution Phase will commence with front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site work will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major forward-facing metal mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.
Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent you will join a team responsible for site-based activities that ensure compliance of the Eva Copper Mine Project with environmental obligations and Harmony Group commitments; implement and assess environmental management strategies across site-based works; and support technical and construction programs to advance the project.
Responsibilities include: Environmental Compliance: Support development and implementation of processes that ensure compliance with the Eva Copper Environment Authority and other relevant legislation, permits and licences. Monitor site works (including exploration, construction activities and future-state mining and processing) to ensure compliance and opportunities for continual improvement. As necessary, assist with any environmental incident investigations and follow up corrective actions. Support the development and implementation of environmental management plans and procedures. Liaise with regulatory departments in relation to audits and compliance activities. Support programs relating to approvals for project start-up and operations including, for example, Environment Authority amendments, ERC submissions, PRCP development, technical reports informing submissions, regulatory engagement etc. Environmental Monitoring: Conduct routine monitoring programs and manage the interface with laboratory and any consultants supporting programs. Liaise with regulatory departments in relation monitoring results. Collate, manage, interpret and report on data related to environmental performance to satisfy internal and external reporting requirements. Complete routine reviews of the monitoring program scope and implement updates to maintain alignment with the scope of site activities, baseline requirements and compliance obligations. Environmental Assessments: Assist with the definition of scopes of work, and the contracting and tender review process, to engage parties to support environmental studies and assessments for the project. Coordinate and support the undertaking of surveys and campaigns, including all HSE-related requirements. Manage and support the delivery of environmental surveys with particular emphasis on terrestrial ecosystems, specifically flora and fauna biodiversity and habitat. General: Provide professional, timely environmental advice to site personnel and deliver awareness and training programs to support an understanding of environmental performance requirements and opportunities for improved outcomes. Maintain knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental obligations, current best practice and innovation within the industry. Assist with the delivery of reports in accordance with required timeframes (internal project reports, Harmony Board reports and external regulatory compliance reporting). Support engagements with stakeholders on environmental performance matters. What you will bring to Harmony: Minimum 5 years environmental industry experience, including at operating mines and on major civil projects. Bachelor of Environmental Science, or similar Experience in environmental management, monitoring, inspections and auditing. Experience in ecological surveys, flora and fauna identification skills and, strongly desirable, Fauna Spotter Catcher and snake handling experience. Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation. Manual QLD driver's licence. Proficient with MS Office suite of products. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to engage with and establish positive relationships with multiple stakeholders. Solid organisational skills with thorough attention to detail. Location: This role will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our site in Cloncurry NW QLD, with local candidates highly regarded. The roster is 8 days on, 6 days off.
