About the Role: Do you have a background in safety, construction, civil engineering, or plant operations? Are you passionate about building a culture of safety in the workplace? My Council client are looking for a dedicated High Risk Safety Officer to join their dynamic team and play a crucial role in enhancing workplace health and safety across our diverse operations. Based in the picturesque Yorke Peninsula, just a 2-hour drive from Adelaide, this is an exciting opportunity for a safety professional to take on a leadership role in advancing our Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System. You will guide and support management, supervisors, and workers to meet their WHS responsibilities, while working across a wide range of high-risk areas to promote safety and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the Team Leader Risk and Safety, Safety and Wellbeing Officer, and Clerical Officer to coordinate and implement WHS actions to meet legislative requirements. Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and other safety documentation in collaboration with relevant Supervisors and Subject Matter Experts. Coordinate and lead risk assessments, audits, and safety inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions. Guide managers and staff on WHS responsibilities and ensure compliance with safety protocols across all areas of operations. Lead the safe management of chemicals and coordinate related audits and compliance checks. Investigate incidents, monitor trends, and provide advice on corrective actions to improve workplace safety. Coordinate and participate in WHS training, ensuring employees are educated on WHS policies and procedures. Support the development of workplace safety programs and promote a culture of safety and wellbeing throughout the organisation. Provide advice on high-risk safety issues, including the safe operation of plant and machinery, height safety equipment, and pressure vessels. Act as Proxy Planning Officer in line with Council's Business Continuity Plan and Incident Operations Arrangements. Participate in safety committees and forums, championing workplace health and safety initiatives. Skills and Experience: Solid understanding of WHS legislation and its application in the workplace, particularly in high-risk environments such as construction, civil engineering, and plant operations. Experience in developing and implementing safety programs, risk assessments, and safety management systems. Ability to influence change and collaborate with all levels of the organisation to enhance safety culture. Knowledge of the safe management of chemicals, including ChemAlert, and the development of Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills. Strong report writing skills and the ability to present safety information to senior management. Experience in conducting incident investigations and maintaining safety documentation. A qualification in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or a related field is preferred, along with relevant licences and certifications.
