Reporting within Decarb Solutions to the Project Manager of Decarb Energy, Fortescue are seeking a Green Systems Engineer who will work in close collaboration with the key planning and development teams across Fortescue Energy and Metals such as Energy Operations, Mine Planning, Integrated Planning to understand the current Planning processes and contribute to building a model that can enable 'Energy Aware' Planning processes across the business.
The role covers a dynamic range of responsibilities such designing, modelling, analysing and optimising the IEB model across Fortescue's value chain. The candidate will have a familiarity with technical understanding of renewable power supply and demand and work with the Subject Matter Experts to develop the required models. This position would be best suited to an individual who will work collaboratively across multiple workstreams, and thrives working in a fast-paced, challenging environment and demonstrates a high-level of resilience and flexibility. The role requires technical systems capability, innovative thinking and strong stakeholder engagement to innovate and drive solutions.
Key Responsibilities Designing, coding and supporting simulation tools to model Fortescue's integrated energy balance Performing analysis with the integrated energy balance model to support decarbonisation and operational planning functions Enabling the integrated energy balance model to meet requirements of Planning teams including Energy Operations, Mine Planning and Integrated Planning Ongoing maintenance and support of the IEB code base in collaboration with NREL Transferring application-based requirements to the Green Systems development team to aid in the delivery of an application that utilises the underlying IEB model Transferring knowledge and capability into other Fortescue functions to support implementation and operation of Fortescue's decarbonisation infrastructure Validate inputs from other teams and outputs of energy planning systems Qualifications and Experience BSc in Engineering, Computer Science (or similar) AWS Cloud certifications (Associated and Professional) is beneficial 3+ years' experience in engineering design or operations 1+ years' experience in developing models, analysing and optimising, preferentially in a mining/heavy industry context Experience with optimisation techniques and tools appropriate for optimising models and simulations of dynamic systems i.e. Gurobi Experience in working with industry standard Power system models (e.g. PLEXOS) is highly beneficial Experience on agile based projects / working knowledge of Agile practises would be beneficial Consulting experience would be beneficial Ability to develop and interpret complex system simulations Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences Sound capability to develop in Python software language appropriate for analytical application development. Julia programming is beneficial Capability to develop code unit tests  Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work cohesively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
