Green Light Canberra is seeking enthusiastic and motivated Junior Mainframe Developers to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or those with foundational programming experience who are eager to develop expertise in mainframe technologies. As a Junior Mainframe Developer, you will work on critical projects supporting enterprise-level systems, learning to design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications.
Role: Junior Mainframe Developer
Contract Term: 12 months plus 2*12 months possible Extension
Hybrid Work Arrangement
Must be Australian citizen.
Location: Canberra/Brisbane/Melbourne/Adelaide/Sydney
Responsibilities:
Assist in designing, coding, testing, and debugging mainframe programs and applications using tools such as COBOL , JCL , RPG , or Assembler . Support and maintain existing mainframe systems, identifying and resolving defects or performance issues. Collaborate with senior developers, business analysts, and IT teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions. Participate in system testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and documentation processes. Monitor batch jobs, logs, and system performance, ensuring smooth daily operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent technical training/certifications. Foundational knowledge of programming languages such as COBOL , JCL , or similar. Understanding of databases (e.g., DB2 , IMS , or VSAM ) and SQL queries is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and logical thinking abilities. Eagerness to learn and grow in a mainframe environment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Requirements:
Familiarity with tools such as TSO/ISPF , CICS , or Rexx scripting . Exposure to Agile methodologies, version control tools (e.g., Git), or DevOps concepts. Prior internship, coursework, or training related to mainframe technologies.
