We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director to lead the Science for Management section, driving the coordination of natural science information and expert advice.
This leadership role will see you play a critical part in ecosystem resilience, science partnerships, and strategic decision-making for the Great Barrier Reef. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in environmental science, marine science, or protected area management, with experience in stakeholder engagement, program coordination, and project management. Key Responsibilities: Manage the Natural Science team and lead the provision of a science coordination service across the Authority including supporting the implementation of the Reef 2050 Integrated Monitoring and Reporting Program. Contribute to leadership across the agency including supervision and development of staff. Coordinate development and delivery of Science Information Needs Strategies, identification of priority knowledge gaps and engagement with knowledge holders and the science community to address these gaps in partnership. Report and provide expert advice to Senior Management on ecosystem resilience, risks to the Reef and implementation of the Reef 2050 Integrated Monitoring and Reporting Program, particularly as it relates to decision support and management guidance. Engage with government, scientists, stakeholders, and Indigenous knowledge holders to build strong partnerships and deliver science partnerships that contribute to the health and resilience of the Reef. Plan, lead and coordinate projects to a high standard including contributing to policy, strategies, and plans. Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in environmental or marine science (or equivalent). Proven experience advising government on science and/or management issues.
