Graphic Designer (APS5), Strategic Communicationtemporary position; full-time hours; flexible working arrangementsThe Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to recruit a Graphic Designer for a temporary contract until 30 September 2026. The Strategic Communication section provides a range of expertise to ensure the high quality of the ABS' internal and external communication. As part of the Strategic Communication team, the Creative Studio helps develop engaging and informative communication approaches.
The Studio provides design and production expertise across video, photography, audio, animation, branding and visual design. The Creative Studio consists of five people working within the Canberra office and has key partnerships with Strategic Communication activities, supporting our experts across the ABS.
About the RoleResponsibilities include:
designing materials for digital and print distribution from concept development to execution to meet business objectivesensuring all designs align with brand guidelines and maintain a consistent look and feelmanaging multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlinesdistilling complex and/or technical written information into effective visual contentconducting quality assurance checks to ensure all graphics and videos meet high standards of quality and accuracysupporting in-house and external digital and print production projects as requiredensuring all material used meets copyright, licensing, and accessibility requirements.Salary: $82,085 - $92,201 (plus 15.4% superannuation)

What we are looking for (selection criteria)To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:
proven experience as a Graphic Designer with a strong portfolio showcasing your workBachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field is preferredexcellent technical and practical understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Microsoft Word and PowerPointestablished work management practices to prioritise workloads and undertake quality assurance processes to ensure delivery of high-quality materials within tight timeframes.Desirable: experience in video editing and productionproficiency in video editing software (Premiere Pro, After Effects).How to applyYou will need to upload your current resume, provide referee details and respond to the following: Provide a statement of claims (in no more than 500 words) of how you have demonstrated the skills, qualities and experience required for this role as outlined in Section 1 of the Applicant Information Kit.
