employment within the APS.About the team Questacon's aim is to increase awareness and understanding of science and innovation through inspirational learning experiences.Questacon's primary goal is to provide quality and relevant interactive exhibitions and programmes that present science and technology in contemporary contexts.The Design team, within the Exhibitions section, is responsible for the 2D and 3D design of exhibitions, exhibits and experiences, as well as the design of program collateral and promotional material, and visual brand development and management.The opportunity This is a rare opportunity to lead the graphic design development of world class interactive, inspirational, and innovative exhibitions, spaces, experiences, and exhibits for Questacon's audiences.You will work with teams of inhouse specialists comprised of science communicators, graphic and industrial designers, fabrication technicians and project managers, and develop graphic design styles and strategies for future exhibitions as Questacon embarks on a program of gallery renewal.Our ideal candidate We are looking for a senior graphic designer to lead the development of exhibition graphics ranging from identity, interpretation, and large format graphics, to marketing, digital, and motion graphics.Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and creative flair in designing high quality quality graphics for interactive exhibitions and exhibits in a science centre or museum setting.From their experience of visitor engagement and behaviour they will be able to lead the team in the creative development and translation of concept briefs into graphic elements.Our ideal candidate will be a team player and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills including excellent creative design, visualising and presentation skills, as well as extensive Adobe software and artwork preparation skills.They will have experience and knowledge of briefing and working with external providers, WHS and risk assessment processes, procurement processes, and have awareness of relevant codes for public exhibitions and exhibits.What you will do As a Graphic Designer at the APS Level 5, you will: Conceive, develop, produce and implement creative graphic design outcomes including: Permanent and travelling interactive exhibits and screen-based exhibits.Complete exhibition graphic packages, including identity, logo and setwork.Layout and typography, illustration, and image-based designs.Promotional print, online, and digital products.Wayfinding signage.Other items as required.Liaise and coordinate with internal and external specialists and providers including science concept and content developers, exhibition designers, fabricators, printers, photographers, illustrators, suppliers and other production staff as appropriate throughout all phases of a project.Keep current with relevant industries and seek out new materials, processes, display techniques, and technologies both in print and digital mediums.Take on board feedback, and provide graphic design advice and expertise.Provide input and actively participate as a member of interactive exhibition development teams in the exhibition design process to ensure high quality outcomes and integration of graphic elements.Actively participate as a member of the Design Team by providing support to the Senior Graphic Designer, Design Manager, and team.In addition to the above, as a Senior Graphic Designer at the APS Level 6, you will: Work with exhibition development teams of specialists to shape and lead the development of creative graphic design strategies, schemes, elements, and technologies for travelling and permanent interactive exhibitions and projects that inspire and engage Questacon's audiences.Coordinate and oversee the work of exhibition graphic designers, and provide mentoring and support.Schedule and monitor the development and delivery of exhibition graphic design outputs in conjunction with the Project Manager.Undertake continual improvement activities with the team in all areas including accessibility, sustainability, quality control, team processes, as well as build team knowledge of relevant codes, copyright, and legislated requirements.Be responsible for the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of existing graphic elements and assets.Eligibility Tertiary qualifications in graphic design are mandatory.To work at Questacon applicants must hold a valid Working With Vulnerable People card.Applicants are also required to hold a Baseline security clearance, or have the ability to successfully apply for and maintain a Baseline security clearance.To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.Notes It is preferred that applicants have experience in developing graphic design for large scale exhibitions in cultural institution, museum, or interactive science centre settings, as is experience and knowledge of relevant print processes and materials.Skills in After Effects and developing motion graphics are desirable.The role is office-based in Deakin, ACT due to the team-based and specialist nature of the work.Flexible work arrangements can be arranged with the team manager.A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was
