Melton Specialist School has seen a significant increase in enrolment demand, which has led to many changes to our staffing profile over the last 3 years. We have a current enrolment of 403 students and anticipate that number will potentially exceed 430 during 2024. We focus on staff wellbeing and ensure our staff have time away from class to focus on their administrative duties. We offer flexible working arrangements and provide onsite training for all staff for TEACCH and Behaviour Support.
Melton Specialist School provides educational programs for students with disabilities at both primary and secondary levels in a positive, caring, and safe environment. It is a dual mode setting, catering for students with mild through to severe intellectual disabilities and other associated disabilities like Autism. Students are transported to our school via bus or family transport. The school is closely located to other schools as well as a variety of community retail spaces, leisure, and recreational facilities. Our school environment includes traditional classrooms, specialist and vocational training classrooms, therapy spaces, and indoor sensory areas. Our grounds feature natural gardens, purpose-built outdoor sensory areas, playground equipment, sports facilities, and covered walkways. Teachers and Educational Support staff use a wide variety of resources to ensure all students have a positive and successful educational journey.

Program Benefits - Graduates This position may attract an incentive payment of $5,650 (pre-tax) for the successful candidate who meets the eligibility criteria set out under conditions of employment. Role - Graduates The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation, and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.

Planning and implementing a range of teaching programs or courses of study. Teaching an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level. Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting student progress in key learning areas. Implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes. Maintaining records of class attendance and recording student progress. Implementing effective student management consistent with the school charter. Have completed their course requirements and graduated in the last 4 years. Not be employed as a teacher by the department at the time the advertised position is to commence. Applicants must also be currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
