Location ProfileGlenroy West Primary School was built in 1958 and is located in Glenroy 16km north of metro CBD. There are new facilities and large grounds that provide for active and positive play, adventure playgrounds, running track and oval, basketball courts, playground, down-ball courts kindergarten and native gardens.
Glenroy West Primary School received $18.12 million to upgrade and modernise the school, including new facilities for an additional 200 students to meet enrolment growth for the 2023 school year and future years. Glenroy West Primary School is a kindergarten to year 6 school and has a history of excellence in education. This school is very well regarded by the local community and has always had a reputation as an excellent Victorian Government school due to high expectations for both teaching, learning and behaviour. The school has a proven record of achieving high academic standards of education.
The school currently has 346 students with an expected increase in future enrolment to 550 students. The student population is diverse with thirty languages represented at the school and 65 per cent of students coming from a home where English is not the main language. Our EAL (English as an Additional Language) student population is increasing, and the school has a SFO index of 0.5556 and SFOE index of 0.4191. The school has two new kindergartens called York Street Kindergarten operational from 2014 under the banner of the Northern Schools Early Years Cluster. The York Street Kindergarten has an excellent educational program for both three- and four-year-old. There is a strong link between the school and kindergarten to ensure a seamless transition in the Early Years.
The curriculum provides explicit teaching and learning in literacy and numeracy based on the Victorian Curriculum. The school provides an inquiry-based authentic approach to teaching and learning, where literacy and numeracy are embedded across all subject areas.
Specialist programs include Physical Education, The Arts, STEM, Music and LOTE (Spanish). EAL teaching support is provided for students who meet the criteria and tutoring support for these students who require intervention in both literacy and numeracy.
The school offers extra Homework Club as an extracurricular subject and the High Ability Program is also offered for students requiring extension.
Our staff is highly trained, dedicated and professional in upholding high academic, social and personal standards. We adopt a forward-thinking approach to curriculum development and delivery so that all students will be engaged in a curriculum that prepares them for their future. We emphasise personalised learning, goal setting for all students, EAL program, literacy and numeracy intervention at the school for those students who require the foundations for language acquisition and further individualized learning plans from Foundation to Year 6.
The school has an ongoing focus on developing open teaching spaces by linking pedagogy to practice. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards installed, a one-to-one iPad program from Grades 3-6 with a strong focus on teaching and learning.
The focus continues to be on 21st century learning with the use of flexible learning spaces, teacher practice and working collaboratively with other schools in the Merri-Bek Hume Network in partnership and across the wider system. Program Benefits - GraduatesThis position may attract an incentive payment of $5,650 (pre-tax) for the successful candidate who meets the eligibility criteria set out under conditions of employment. Role - GraduatesThe primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and may have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers.
At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities.
The focus of a range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice. New entrants to the teaching profession in their initial teaching years receive structured support, mentoring and guidance from teachers at higher levels.
Under guidance, new entrants to the teaching profession will plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to participate in induction programs and other professional learning activities that are designed to ensure the integration of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across the school.
Teachers at range 1 are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also assist and participate in policy development, project teams and the organisation of co-curricula activities.
Responsibilities - Graduates Core responsibilities include:
Planning and implementing a range of teaching programs or courses of study.Teaching an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level.Monitoring, evaluating and reporting student progress in key learning areas.Implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes.Maintaining records of class attendance and recording student progress.Implementing effective student management consistent with the school charter.Working with a mentor to participate in professional development planning, implementation and reflection developing a professional portfolio.Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Supervising a range of student activities including support and welfare programs.Contributing to a range of co-curricular programs.Who May Apply - GraduatesTo be eligible to apply for a position advertised through the Teacher Graduate Recruitment program, a teacher must:

In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
