Murdoch University is committed to enhancing diversity in all its forms and strongly encourages suitably qualified candidates from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, women, people with disability, people of CaLD background and people of diverse genders to apply for this important position.About UsWorking at the State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC) and the Centre for Crop and Food Innovation (CCFI) within the Food Futures Institute (FFI); you will be placed in one of Murdoch University's leading research institutes and working to provide solutions on the sustainable use of limited land and water resources to improve food, forestry, and fibre production economically and ethically.The SABC is the collaborative university centre for R&D in agricultural and veterinary biotechnology in Western Australia and provides platform technologies and world class equipment and facilities for R&D in agricultural biotechnology to researchers from universities, state government and industry.The CCFI is a collaboration of academic and research staff working with industry partners to provide both strength and depth in research on major broadacre and horticultural crops to improve yield, quality and enhance tolerance and protection from biological and environmental stresses.The RoleThe successful candidate will design and implement a range of experiments and assist with developing genomic resources such as de novo genome assemblies, pangenomes, genotyping platforms and databases for five Australian agricultural crops.Key responsibilities for the role include:Transfer of data from sequencing machines to designated servers efficiently,Perform preliminary sequencing data analysis, including data preprocessing and curationDevelop and maintain databases for sequencing, genotyping, and phenotyping data,Contribute to different genomic analysis, including genome assembly, gene prediction, annotation, variation analysis, and pangenome construction,Contribute to prepare and compile results for publication in international scientific journals, and for inclusion in industry reports.What you'll bring to this roleMaster's Degree in an area relevant to Bioinformatics/Biotechnology/Lifesciences and/or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/trainingMinimum of one year experience in genome analysis, development of bioinformatic tools, pipelines, and databases,Knowledge and experience to work with various computer languages- such as Python, Perl, RAbility to handle transfer and processing of large-scale sequencing data,Effective organisational and communication skills,Planning and organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks to meet deadlines,Ability to engage in high-quality independent research.Applicants should refer to the Position Description for further details on the work requirements, duties, skills and experience required for this role.
