Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited.
Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China.
Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West.
It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
The opportunity This is a site-based position for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our Operational Optimisation Department.
Working on a Full-time 8 days on and 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth.
The Graduate Engineer in the Operations Optimisation department plays a key role in enhancing the productivity of the magnetite Processing Plant.
Leveraging basic engineering tools and methodologies, they assist in optimizing equipment and process performance.
Daily site inspections of equipment are essential, with findings reported to the Senior Mechanical Engineer.
Collaborating closely with the maintenance and planning departments, they help develop and oversee repair plans until completion.
A fundamental understanding of engineering principles and adherence to regulatory standards, including Australian norms, are necessary.
Ultimately, their goal is to support the plant's output of high-quality iron ore through effective engineering solutions and process optimisation.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential: Recognised Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering WA "C" Class manual driver's licence Familiarity with root cause analysis workflow methods and tools Understanding of mechanical engineering principles Excellent communication skills, teamwork attitude Attention to detail and ability to identify issues of equipment master data Be resilient and agile to adapt fast-tracking working environment Previous experience working in mining or resource industry is desirable but not essential National Police Clearance To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia and have graduated from a university in the last 2 years.
Key Duties (but not limited to) :- Adhere to work priorities as directed by immediate supervisors to ensure timely resolution of critical business needs Review all engineering work requests promptly and consistently conduct engineering design, project development, undertake mechanical design and project work as required, ensuring all engineering work complies with Australian standards and other regulatory requirements Ensure drawings, specifications, and scopes of work documents are matched relevant standard and thoroughly reviewed Utilise change management processes to develop and implement any equipment improvements About Karara Mining Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years.
The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
