We work hard to keep them safe from harm because child safety is everyone's responsibility.DirectorateBusiness, Growth & CommunityClassificationGrade D or ESalaryFinal Year of Study Grade D.1 - $69,696 paCompleted Study Grade E.Entry - $73,239 paPlus 11.5% employer contribution to superannuationReporting ToTeam Leader Education & ComplianceEmployment TypeTemporary Full Time for up to 2 yearsThe PositionThe Graduate Environmental Health Officer will assist in the provision of high quality environmental and public health services.ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist the Environmental Health Officers (EHO) in undertaking inspections of registered premises in accordance with relevant Acts and regulations.Undertake public health-related inspections including food, swimming pool and cooling towers.Undertake drinking-water and arbovirus monitoring activities.Respond and manage customer enquiries relating to public and environmental health.Provide referral responses to relevant development applications.Assist in the development and maintenance of administrative, and information management systems.Assist the EHOs in working to educate industry and the community towards increased compliance with environmental and public health statutory requirements.Provide administrative support to the EHOs as required.Assist with the evaluation of work practices to ensure objectives are being met and contribute to the ongoing improvement of services and procedures.Prepare accurate and professional correspondence to management and external customers.Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.QualificationsKEY RELATIONSHIPS:Internal: Our PeopleExternal:Our CustomersFood, health and beauty and skin penetration business operatorsPublic authoritiesAnalytical laboratoriesGovernment agencies and departmentsOther CouncilsCouncil SolicitorsEmployment ConditionsBased on a 35 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines.This position is for a temporary period for up to two years.This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 35 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed with your supervisor.This position requires the employee to lodge an annual Pecuniary Interest Return.This position is delegated with certain powers, authorities, duties and functions of Council under the AlburyCity Delegations of Authority in accordance with section 378 of the Local Government Act.This position does not require you to wear a compulsory uniform, however you must follow the dress code requirements within the AlburyCity's Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.This position involves working in a predominantly indoor environment and using a computer is considered a core component of the role. There may be occasional visits to other work locations. The position requires an average level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake occasional physical activities, such as walking and lifting, along with general manual handling tasks as part of a normal working environment. A medical declaration is required for this position.This position is located at the AlburyCity Administration Building, 553 Kiewa Street, Albury with occasional visits to external sites/depots as required.Essential CriteriaTo be considered eligible for this position you must be in final year or have just completed within the last 12 months a Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health and/or Public Health or an equivalent qualification.Class C (standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have and maintain)Specialist Knowledge And SkillsKnowledge and understanding of the requirements of delivering environmental and public health services to the community and the relevant Acts.Ability to work within standard procedures, practices and acts/regulations.Ability to write reports in the field of expertise and prepare external correspondence.Well-developed computer skills, including MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and electronic document management skills.About UsOur Organisation: We are the facilitator of a thriving, resilient and liveable city full of opportunities and the custodians of an environment like no other.
