Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Grade 3 Senior Pharmacist – Perioperative Medicine to join the Pharmacy Department. About Northern Health: Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our five main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.
About the Pharmacy Department: The Pharmacy Department operates across five campuses and has a strong vision to deliver exceptional, evidenced-based care to our patients – with a clear focus on research, medication safety and clinical excellence. Meeting the immediate and longer-term health care needs of our community requires a transformation in how we provide health care services, and Northern Health has embarked on the journey to transform into a High Reliability Healthcare Organisation.
The department comprises over 100 pharmacists and 30 technicians to provide clinical, operational, quality and informatics services with a strong focus on workforce culture and commitment to professional development.
We are currently undergoing a period of expansion which provides unique opportunities for specialisation appealing to those applicants wishing to challenge themselves and advance practice including pharmacist and technician advanced-scope roles, collaborative multidisciplinary programs and services, medicine stewardship (e.g. analgesics, anticoagulation and antimicrobials) and virtual care (including Heart Failure Virtual Ward and Victorian Virtual Emergency Department).
About the Role: A full-time, fixed term contract opportunity exists for a Grade 3 Senior Pharmacist – Perioperative Medicine to join the team at Northern Health. This role will require work over 10 days (80 hours) per fortnight - Monday to Friday at the Northern Hospital with potential to work at other sites of Northern Health as required.
This position is fixed term full time until January 2026 - covering maternity leave The Senior Pharmacist – Perioperative Medicine has responsibility of the provision of clinical pharmacy services to Northern Health. They will ensure excellence in client care, evidence-based practice, and service improvement and risk management. This role has governance responsibilities for the service including ensuring the competency, credentialing, supervision and professional development of the pharmacy team.
The Senior Pharmacist – Perioperative Medicine is a clinical leadership position and is responsible for the delivery and development of clinical pharmacy services to Northern Health's Perioperative Medicine Service (including Pre-Admission Clinic, Recovery and Operating Theatres).
To be successful in this role you will have: Comprehensive experience as a hospital pharmacist, with minimum 5 years hospital experience Clinical experience in surgical or peri-operative services Experience which includes leadership responsibility for teams or services Experience in supervision and development of staff Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills.
