It is one of 2 modern, well-equipped surgeries owned by 3 GPs. The original practice was established in the early 1950s; due to patient demand, there are now 2 clinics around 7km from each other.
There are around 20 GPs across both surgeries who are supported by the GP owners, management team, industrial health team, qualified nursing staff (there are 3 nurses working at all times), and Allied Health professionals. There is also a Pharmacy, Pathology, and a rehab fitness centre on site.
Opening hours are currently 8am-5pm Mon-Fri. Pre-COVID, the surgery was open on Saturday mornings; however, for the time being, it is not.
There are a number of options for Doctors with special interests. GPs with experience in O&G or Anaesthetics can also admit patients privately and work with the local hospital. Doctors with an interest in Aged care can support the local care homes. If you have any of these specialties, there is the option to work in OOH on a rota basis, where you will receive a stipend and higher billings. This is not an onerous commitment and is entirely optional.
There is also a focus on early detection and treatment of skin cancer, so GPs with an interest in minor procedures and dermatology can also pursue this, as well as a demand for Occupational Health services.
It is a large Coastal Town with 2 hospitals and a diverse patient demographic. The practice has recruited a number of UK GPs who are still happily working there. They pride themselves on their collegiate, supportive, community culture.
It's a mixed billing practice and average earnings are around $350k; however, there are GPs who are earning considerably more because of working additional hours or their special interests.
