Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs.
It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region.
The Tanami Expansion 2 project aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.
The Role We are seeking enthusiastic, proactive, and practically minded Geotechnical Engineers to join our passionate and diverse Geotechnical team at Tanami.
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for a wide range of Geotechnical tasks associated with large sub-level open stope mining with pastefill.
The role will involve underground inspections, shaft sinking inspections, data collection, processing and analysis, QAQC, numerical modelling and assessing underground excavations for stability.
You will develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Mining Operations and the Technical Services teams to maintain and further develop a culture of cooperation and teamwork between the disciplines.
You will be actively engaged in the underground operation, managing daily geotechnical tasks to support safe, efficient and economic mine production.

Interact and engage with mine Operations and Projects teams to ensure the implementation of Geotechnical designs and ground control initiatives.
Perform geotechnical operational & design tasks including underground inspections, data collection, monitoring, reviewing and approving development and production designs.
Provide timely Geotechnical designs & reports, using various data as input into designs, and monitor the performance of underground excavations against design & expected performance.
Actively identify and manage geotechnical risks and develop systems to monitor and manage these.
Participate in weekly, monthly and quarterly schedule input & preparation with Technical Services and Operational teams.
Complete site investigations of rockfall, rock noise and geotechnical hazards.
Update and report on rock falls, seismicity and other databases.
The person History of strong performance in an underground mine working with diverse teams.
Good technical knowledge & skills with excellent communication skills.
Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering / Geology / Engineering Geology with Geotechnical.
Working knowledge of Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan or similar.
Rocscience suite, MAP3 D and/or Flac3 D skills preferred but not essential.
Minimum 2 to 5 years' experience predominantly in underground Geotechnical Engineering, including operational experience.
To be considered for this role, you must meet the site access requirements, have a current driver's license, pass police clearance and pre-employment medical.
Working conditions The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin or Alice Springs.
