Primary objective: To manage the department's Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial library ensuring quality and accessibility of data products and associated information (including metadata), advice, templates, styles and allowing appropriate access to assist internal and external customers in conducting natural resource assessments.
Context statement: Geospatial Services supports natural resource management programs with the provision of spatial data analysis, GIS services, spatial system support and maintenance of web mapping applications.
This includes maintenance of the Oracle Spatial corporate database, ArcGIS server environment, Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) Server and the NR Maps web mapping application.
Key duties and responsibilities: Manage appropriate land and water resource datasets and ensure quality and integrity of new datasets as they are included in the Natural Resources Information Management and Environment.Maintain the library of covers and associated datasets.Analyse relevant datasets to provide integrated and client-oriented resource information.Produce user-friendly GIS output tailored to suit individual needs and promote the use of land resource assessment information in land management decision making.Develop GIS competencies in departmental staff by providing specialist GIS advice.Provide integrated map products for planning and decision making.Selection criteria: Essential Degree or equivalent in Spatial Science, GIS and Remote Sensing, Natural Resource Management, Computer Science, Information Management or equivalent.Demonstrated experience in the use of GIS software with an emphasis on applied uses incorporating land resource information into land use planning.Knowledge of relational databases to store spatial and scientific data, e.g.
Oracle within enterprise spatial environments.Experience in developing spatial competencies and documentation for non-expert staff.Proven ability to work, both in a team environment and independently, and take a pro-active approach to the resolution of data and technical problems.Well-developed communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.Desirable Experience in the use of ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap and/or QGIS software.Experience in enterprise GIS environments, such as ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS or GeoServer.Aware of general cartographic principles and relevant mapping standards related to natural resource science.Experience in data management practices, including metadata collection and management. #J-18808-Ljbffr
