Geophysicist (Australia & Asia-Pacific)

Based in Richmond, BC, on the beautiful west coast of Canada, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions to image deep beneath the Earth's surface.
Ideon is a world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography and has developed a subsurface intelligence platform that integrates proprietary detectors, imaging systems, inversion technologies, and artificial intelligence to provide x-ray-like visibility underground.
By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps mining professionals identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence.
This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain.
In turn, this is helping accelerate the world's transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy.

The Role
We are seeking a Geophysicist with a deep grounding in geology to model various applications of the Ideon Subsurface Intelligence Platform in a customer-facing role.

You will report to the Director, Geosciences, with functional accountability to the General Manager, Australia & Asia-Pacific (APAC), and will work in a team setting with Business Development Executives based in APAC and several Geophysicists based in Canada.
This particular Geophysicist role will support our business development team approximately 50-75% of the time by sharing their geoscience expertise on customer engagements, proposals, and projects across multiple use cases in the mining sector.

You will focus on the following activities:
Together with business development team members, interact with prospective and current customers to ensure understanding of their unique problems and to help qualify opportunities Assess technology application feasibility on known use cases and as-yet-unstudied use-cases and geological features Propose technically feasible solutions that create value for our customers while upholding the integrity of the science behind our products Bring customer projects to fruition by developing, running and/or validating survey simulations as needed during project development Perform geophysical data quality assessment, processing, analysis, and interpretation Process and analyze newly acquired data using Python in Jupyter Notebooks and Geoscience ANALYST Create multi dataset and constrained inversions Complete data usability assessments Distill and present results effectively internally and with customers Own the overall technical quality and proficiency for data processing and analysis for assigned projects Develop, refine and/or apply standard operating procedures for data management, processing, analysis, storage and reporting Outcomes we are looking for in your first 6 months include:

Must-haves – You'll need the following to move forward in the hiring process (and be successful in the role).

Master's degree in geophysics, geology, or closely related field, or equivalent combo of training and experience; a sub-specialization in data science is an asset 3+ years experience in a business, non-academic setting analyzing and interpreting geophysical field data and running forward modeling, simulations, and inversions with multiple provided data sets; a strong understanding of geophysical methods, how geophysical inversions work, and the subtleties that are involved Strong understanding of geology and experience with the theoretical and practical aspects of mineral exploration and resource characterization specifically, and subsurface insights in general Advanced level of coding using Python and open-source packages (i.e.
PANDAS, NumPy) The hiring process will include a "take-home" assessment involving building scripts from scratch in Python to analyze, interpret, and plot data Proficiency using geophysical analysis software to fully process and independently analyze a range of survey data, such as Geoscience ANALYST, ArcGIS, QGIS, GoCAD, LeapFrog, Oasis Montaj, among others Considerable customer engagement experience, a customer-centric mindset, and a track record of creating excellent customer interactions; experience in technical sales support is an asset Comfortable interacting (virtually and in person, in oral and written form) with customers of varying technical acumen Able and willing to present confidently and readily to technical and non-technical audiences Well-developed communication skills in English at a fluent or professional level; additional languages are bonus Legally able and currently documented to work full-time hours in Australia We also look for the following for all new Ideon team members:

Remote work : As Ideon doesn't yet have an office established in Australia, this role is currently a remote role.
Expectations are that work is conducted from your home office in Australia (we'll provide a laptop and some financial support for peripherals).

Hours of work : 38 hours/week, Monday to Friday.
Typical working hours are 8AM-4PM-ish local time; some employees shift slightly earlier or later based on business and personal needs.

Ideon's head office is located in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada (pacific time).
You may occasionally be asked to be flexible with your hours due to business requirements and to accommodate some overlap with team members working in Canada.

Travel : Little to no travel is expected in this role; there may, however, be team building and/or professional development opportunities which could call for occasional travel.
